My partner for the two years I was a burglary detective dropped dead of an aneurism yesterday. 49 years old, retired barely 2 years.
RIP, I will miss you. I will IM the link to anyone who wants it, I am not going to post it publicly since it names my agency and I do not want to get arock'd. |

| So sad but definitely not out of the ordinary. I have lost count of the number of guys I have known who died within a few years of retirement. If only the loudmouths who want our "luxurious" pension packages cut could see the reality of what a career in policing does to most people. Sorry for your loss. |

I know a few guys who don't want to retire because of it. |

It seems like the guys who have side jobs in other fields or who leave and go to part-time or VFDs and stay busy last longer than the guys who "do nothing but hunt and fish" who often seem to wind up just doing nothing instead. |

I know a few guys who don't want to retire because of it. We have a guy that has 27 years on plus 9 years of reserve time. He is terrified to retire because of that, among other things. |
