Well, Every Dept is probably different but ours are as follows:

300 pts Max,  300 DSTNG Expert
285-299 Expert
271-285 Sharpshooter
240-270 Marksman
210-240 (you pass but need some training)
less than 210 you DNQ

This is for primary handgun, longarms, subguns, backups are different.

80%  Qualify
85%  Marksman
90%  Sharpshooter
95%  Expert
This is with primary duty pistol, shotgun, and rifle or subgun for SWAT. BTW all SWAT officers must score 90% minimum.

Mine is right inline with LE6920.

[#4]
85 qualafied
86-90 sharpshooter
91 to 95 master
96 to 100 Expert

Rifle is 90 to qual and instead of different scores we go to a smaller target for master
and a really small target for expert.

Same as seb127, except 100% Master.
Two times in a row to get the pin. No ranking for shotgun or rifle. You must qualify at 90% with rifle and shotgun, but no qual. pin.

86 and up qualifies (43 hits out of 50 fired). It is a pass/fail course. Agencies around here don't like to qualify folks "Expert" or anything like that. They feel that it opens them up to liability, as in "Since you qualified 'Expert,' why didn't you shoot the gun out of my (deceased) client's hand?"

because we shoot to stop the threat counselor, this ain't hollywood.

(i know you know that Natez, just thinking out loud)

actually a lot of weapons are hit by rounds in gunfights because you tend to focus on them and that's where your rounds go.

Almost everyone around here has also gone to pass/fail for the reason listed above. I know that the issue can be debated both ways, but apparently like everything else there have been court decisions that also weighed into the final decision......

Pass/fail becuase of a stupid lawsuit in which the family said a cop who always shot perfect scores could have just shot the gun out of the badguys hand.

I have to go with the pass/fail system also, it helps in law suits as you can say the officer was proficient enough to pass, so he was armed. Our Attorney General ,through the Ohio Peace Officers Academy states the minimum qualifications, so the other attorneys' can't argue with it.

I really dislike the pass/fail system.  It turns shooters into slobs – often they will only try to be good enough to pass.

On the other hand, it makes scoring the targets a lot easier (and with a lot fewer arguments).

A lot of agencies have gone from a minimum 70% for the passing score to 80%.  However, it’s just a numbers game since the difficultly is also based on the actual course being fired and the firearm being used.

I remember, long ago, when we had to qualify with Model 36’s on the old 50 yard PPC course.  Even at 70% and using the big old B-27 target, that was a pretty tough course (the secret was not losing any rounds on the closer stages).
