I think you need to watch the video a little closer. Dust is flying forward from the rear tires and the dust is mostly toward the center of the car. Acceleration would have sent dust backwards from the tires. Likely the dust was stirred up by the front tires sliding across the dirt. Only a front wheel drive car would kick dust toward the center of the squad while accelerating and CVP=RWD.
I'm not one to second guess anyones actions without knowing all the details, but a vehicle strike is considered deadly force around here. I hope that officer is a very compitent report writer. I'm sure there is much more to the story than what was in the video. |

alvin is absolutely filled with stuipdity and this deal is no exception. (im referring to the turds yahooing beer, the random woman trying to car surf their car so they cant leave, and then the turds getting in a high speed pursuit to escape class C theft citation)
On topic though, this is not the first time a pearland police officer had run over a person fleeing on foot. There was a purse jacking in this same wallmart parking lot at 518 and 288 a few years ago by a male and female suspect in a white van. They fled, crashed out in a field off of 288 and buried the van in mud and the male jumped out and ran through a field. A pearland police pickup truck drove through the field trying to catch him and ran the guy over with the front grill and tires. in the officers defense, i looked like he was speeding to overtake the suspect and had the truck lined up on the suspect and at the last minute as he was about to pass him he tried to hit the brakes on loose dirt/mud and turn to pull up beside the suspect at the same time. I guess he was going to jump out the drivers door and tackle the guy or something. Anyhow it definately must have made more sense in his head because when he hit the brakes and cut the front wheels, the truck went straight and plowed the dumb perp over. The suspect appeared uninjured but there was a bit of hoopla over that incident for a few months afterward. Actually im a little surprised that pearland officers were so quick to make the same mistake. If it was a mistake. Still, i see a EVOC in their future. ETA: please forgive the absolutely stupid background music but this is video of the truck running over a perp incident: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yrlWTDhscaQ |

Wow a daytime pursuit on busy streets..... for a Misdemeanor theft of beer....that shit woulda been terminated before the pursuit even started where I work! And then to use that level of force on a fleeing suspect. Guess they do stuff a lil differently then where I live. I do like how the news is all on board with the officers too....I wouldn't know what that kind of support is like where I live. Good catch though....and looked badass!

I think you should be able to hit a fleeing suspect with a car and that he needs to be responsible for his medical bills. here is the reason
1. shouldn't of committed or been apart of the crime 2. got into the car and put all the people in danger (passenger or driver) 3. ran when the car was stopped. (if he didn't do anything then why did he run) If the person runs then any injury that he sustains is his fault for making me run. |
