I'm finally taking the TCLEOSE Test this Friday in Austin. I'm a little bit nervous, but I have been putting my heart and soul in this since I started the academy back in January. I'm just wondering if anyone that has recently taken the test has any piece of advice or info that want to share!
Thanks

I took it in November of last year.

Just relax and don't worry about it. If you get nervous during the test, your liable to second guess yourself and miss questions that you knew the answer to. If you don't know an answer or get bogged down with a question, skip it and come back to it. You'd be suprised at how many questions have the answers to them in another question. Don't fret it.

Victoria College is your friend for practice tests.  I saw almost 70% of the questions from Victoria College on my state exam.

I took it on June 10th. It wasent that bad. Mine had a lot of questions about juveniles, which I didn't study much. Know your traffic, penal code basics, and CCP.

i took it five years ago right before the minimum passing score went up from 70 to 80. I still got higher than an 80 though.

It asked a bunch of stupid quesiton relating to DWI statistics instead of the actual law and asked a bunch of other questions about how many FEET do you have to dim you headlights, signal a turn, stop before a railroad track, ect. Stuff that i didnt really focus all my attention on. There was some stuff from the family code pertaining to juveniles in there too, stuff that you wouldnt think the test would emphasize over penal code and CCP pertaining to arrests.

Just practice your study guides and you should do fine. Most police academys wont even let you take the test unless they're sure that you can pass it by giving you a final exam before you graduate the academy and mandating that you have to pass the final to graduate. The final is usually exactly what the TCLEOSE test review is.

Apparently they do this because the results of how many people who went through their acadmey passed TCLEOSE is made publicly available as statistics and TCLEOSE was on a hard push to deregulate alot of the smaller academies who take anybodies money without a strong desire to actually train cadets. Also, they lose future business if their statistics suck.

This was all explained to me by my academy instructor on the first week. He told us up front that if he didnt think we could pass TCLEOSE he wouldnt pass us and that his academy had like a 98% pass rate or something.

Passing score for TCLEOSE when I took it last year was 70. We had a cadet that made a 78 and passed it.

Hmm maybe they lowered the score back down to 70 or my memory just really sucks.

Although I would bet you a big Mac that they were either considering or temporarily raised the minimum passing score to 80 a while back.

This, when I took the test over 5 years ago this was true.

The passing score for the TCLEOSE exams has always been 70.  In the late 90s they only issued a Pass or Fail with no score provided.  An academy may require a higher score on an exit exam prior to endorsement which is exactly what we do.

Yep, my academy required an 85 or better on the final exam before they would let you take TCLEOSE.

Thank you all for the replies. I took my test yesterday and I end up scoring an 84%. I'm kind of disappointed about my final score but happy that I'm finally getting sworn in next Monday!!! The test wasn't really that hard, and I had more than plenty of time to check every answer on the test twice!!!

Congrats.  The score might not have been what you were looking for but it is over and done with now.  Won't matter from here on out what you scored anyway.  Good job and be safe out there.
