Well I just got home from training. I got hired for the local Sheriffs Dept. I was sworn in today. Yay. It is a "limited term employment" job. But I got my foot in the door. So this summer I will be working 2 LTE PD jobs and my boring 9-5.
I didnt realize how many policies there were for the Sheriffs Dept. We spent the first day reading the policies. But today I got to shoot some one elses ammo and get paid for it. Tomorrow is some field training so I get to go out and have fun. |
Congratulations!
Remember a few things: 1) It doesn't matter if you're in a big city, podunk farm town, full time, part time or volunteer. Bad guys will try to kill you. Be prepared and never ignore your gut. 2) "Routine", "boring" and "frequent flyer" will turn around and you. (hey we don't have an "ass biting" smiley )
3) Doesn't matter if it's hot. Hearses and caskets are plenty warm in dress blues, and the limos for families are even more uncomfortable. Wear your damn vest. 4) You're the n00b. You have two eyes, two ears and one mouth - use them proportionately. Stay safe and welcome. |
| Yeah what he said. Its a big job and you dont learn it in a day. Relax, and soak up everything you can. If in your mind you feel like something is the right thing to do (handcuff someone, draw your weapon, change your position, etc etc), then do it. Dont waste time worrying about what you think somebody wants you to do. |
you. (hey we don't have an "ass biting" smiley
