Im currently stationed aboard Camp Lejeune, NC and was wondering if any Fire Fighters know of the closest CPAT testing or information to find it.  Ive been all over FF forums all night looking and I cant find anything legit.  Ive spoke to the FF's on base and off and they know nothing about it either.  Any help is appreciated.

not sure how its done in other states.  But in Oregon, almost every department will run its own physical agility testing as part of the hiring process.  Its usually a written test, then physical, then interviews.
The physical agility only mildly varied from department to department.  Its usually a local adaptation of the fire fighter challenge.  I have never found it to be difficult.

The only department that I have applied for that uses the CPAT.  Is the city of Eugene.  I will be honest, the stair climber sucks donkey balls.
I cannot really explain why, but the stair climb will smoke your legs.  I have been told it is because the stairs move at a pace slow enough that your muscles get stuck between aerobic and anaerobic.
But it really boils down to testicular fortitude.  If you suck it up and keep going.  It can be completed.

IIRC, some states have one agency provide the testing, then those scores will follow you to other departments.  Oregon does not do this.

Here is the Eugene CPAT.

Licensed C-PAT Test Centers

You can't just go take the test, you have to be applying for a specific department.

From the IAFF website:

Full CPAT Licenses will only be issued to fire departments for the purposes of candidate preparation and physical ability testing of career fire fighters.

CPAT limited licenses will only be issued to third party testing organizations that are:

·        federal, state or provincial governments or agencies;

·        state or provincial fire academies;

·        colleges/universities that conduct pre-employment testing; or

·        pre-employment testing organizations.

I submitted an application to a Fire Department and they replied saying I can't be considered for the posistion because I dont have a CPAT.  Its (as you know) a national test so im trying to find out how to go about getting one taken so I can start applying and being considered.  But so far non of the departments around here know anything about it and cant tell me how to go about getting one.

If you are applying for a department that requires C-PAT, they have to tell you where you can take the test and where you can get preparatory training for it. Considering you hail from LeJune, I gather you are in the Corps (or are you a Corpsman?) so fitness shouldn't be an issue, you just need to practice. Are any of the NC license holders near LeJune? If so, they may let you practice there.

Differentially ask them.  Here in NE Ohio a know that a couple of departments require you to do a Combat Challenge type test at a local Community College.  IIRC your time is good for like 6months to a year.

The stair stepper on the CPAT is kind of odd, like was mentioned before its sort of an in between pace.  My best advice would be find some place to take it and try and some practice runs. From there you can see what you may need to work on to improve your time if need be.
