We are doing a 7/7 split here - everybody works 7 straight and gets 7 off; either Christmas or New Years. I got my wish and am working for Christmas on the afternoon shift, 1500-2300. I'm a single guy with no dependants other than my dog, so that works well for me. New Years is a lot busier too, but I'll be on the slopes. What are you guys doing?

And a special side bet: If anyone gets a DV which involves a Turkey or Tree being launched through a window, I will buy you a team membership.

Working a double, just like Thanksgiving.

What about a DV using a drumstick as a weapon?

LE folks - do your calls typically change much around Christmas? I can imagine what they do for New Years.

I am off both days, WOOT! Our sheriff lets our guys take calls from home on Thanksgiving and Christmas anyways. Yes, the calls get wierder and crazier during the hoildays, lots of domestics, alcohol involved incidents, and general craziness.

I worked Thanksgiving and I'll also be working Christmas Eve, Christmas, New Years Eve and New Years Day. 1600-0200. I'm very much OK with that.

Suicide rate goes up too.

Working both of them here too. Don't really care whether I work or not, although I do like the 1.5 pay

Yes I may as well just leave my squad running and my gear out.

I had Thanksgiving off, I work Christmas Eve and Christmas day (night shift 1800-0600) so I plan on being very tired on Christmas itself as I have a toddler I refuse to disappoint by sleeping through the day.
I do however have new years eve and day off.  I'll probably be asleep by 2100 on new years as I'm such a wild and crazy guy.

As far as holiday runs... Domestics and suicides.  Always domestics and suicides.

And DUI... Call volume is a lot lower, but the calls that do come are either super fluff paperless files, or else they're good'ers. Last year I spent most of Christmas eve/Christmas morning driving in circles around town and drinking coffee. I saw maybe one car out there besides me. My favourite coffee chain (Tim Hortons) closes from the afternoon of the 24th until noon on the 26th do I had to go to 7-11 for my Java... I had to talk them into letting me pay for the coffee. That killed an extra 5 minutes of the shift. We wound up the night without lodging anyone, which really surprised me. I'm hoping for a repeat this year.

We do this too. Somebody always makes a huge turkey, so those of us working and/or not otherwise committed go there for a few hours; plus the EMS gang is cooking one too, so there will be much social niceties to go around. Multiple turkey dinners are good :D

This is my first year working in LE. But i have heard our suicide numbers go wayyy up. We had 2 on Sunday. One guy made sure he did it right. Used a double barrel shotgun. We had a double homicide on Christmas Day last year....

My card is working. Chirstmas lands in our 4 on days.

It's fine with me.  The state gives us 12 hours of holiday time for it.

I love getting free stuff.

That's some good teamwork there.  I'm not getting either Christmas or New Years off but as one of the junior supervisors I figured that I wouldn't be getting either off for a least a couple more years. The good thing is that I'm working midnights so my family is going to wait until I get home to get started.

We work 12 hour shifts 6-6 AM or PM.
I'm traffic and am supposed to work 4 tens, Mon-Thur. 8am-6pm.

We are short handed on Patrol so I'm working a 1400-0200 shift.

I work Xmas and will just hang out around the house and take calls from there.
I'm off New Years weekend unless they want me to go out and DUI Patrol.

I did this almost every year when I was single with no kids........now I have the small kids( 4 and 6 YO).  Several of our "older" guys, whose kids are grown up will usually volunteer to work for guys with little kids who could not get the day off.

I originally had christmas off, but gave it up so one of the other deputies could have off. He's got a 3 year old who has never had daddy home on christmas.

I'm working New Year's Eve/New Year's Day though.

I am working doubles on both Christmas and new years.  I was suppose to work thanksgiving but I was on vacation that week.

All I would do otherwise is sit around the house.

Better to let someone spend time with their kids.

Got it off for the first time in six years.

I work Christmas, and New Years Day.
I am single as well, and family is in another town, so I will be doing my best to eat dinner at no less than 2 friends' houses during the day.
Our Sheriff is cool about working hard to hardly work on Thanksgiving and Christmas as well, so its a pretty easy day.
Generally no major problems around here, even on New Years because everyone goes to the bigger towns to party, and there is nothing going on here.

Later,

It's just me and the dog at home, and the dog can't read a calandar. Yet.

My Niece & Nephew think its awesome because they get Christmas twice.

My sister gets a calmer Christmas Day with no travelling between sets of relatives.

My parents get to have a quiet day together and then everybody comes together to celebrate.

I actually feel like working Chistmas is a huge bonus for me, and the rest of the fandamly too.

We always have single CO's offer to work the holidays for CO's with families. The cardinal rule at work though is..if you are scheduled to work..you work. People who book off take a lot of heat..

Christmas time is always a hard time of year, so I prefer to work it.  I work both Christmas and New years, but I get New years Day, not New years eve.  We rotate to days on the 1st.

Working the holidays this year too. The kids are grown, ALL the relatives live out of town and me and the wife are Mr and Mrs Grinch now anyway. The probability of seeing a body does goes up. Is it just my luck or do any of ya'll notice more nursing home natural deaths at Thanksgiving and Xmas ?       I'm on call this month too.

I was scheduled off for christmas and to work on New Years Eve, but a fractured pelvis courtesy of a drunk driver changed those plans. I was also supposed to work thanksgiving, but since he cracked up my squad on 11/16, I got to spend that holiday at home too. While it sucks to be out of work I can be thankful I wasn't hurt worse, and I get to spend the holidays with my wife and 9mo daughter.

Pretty much the same here.    We hosted our family Christmas because of that, actually.    I got dressed and signed on at 4pm but ended up getting to stay home until everybody left.   I didn't have a call until like 8pm.

We always seem to get a lot of child custody stuff around the holidays, which is very annoying because both halfs usually have contradicting paperwork.
