In the last year we've had 7 officer involved shootings. Six of them in the last 7 months. One of which I was involved in.(All officers went home every time.) Does anyone think this is a lot? Is it just me or are people just getting more violent? We probably could have had another one today. I took today off to stay with my wife who has been pretty sick and get word that shots were fired at officers in the district I work. I called my partner and he informed me no one was hurt and they got the suspects. You guys be safe and keep your heads on a swivel.

We just had three in a 2 1/2 week period.  Two involving officers from my agency, one from a neighboring agency within our county....seems like folks are flippin out these days!

I'm just waiting for the day all those big city problems make it down our way more often. There are a few of us training hard, but the rest (majority) of the department is going to be in for a big shock.

"Alot" depends on the size of the agency and locality.  We average 1 or 2 a year, but several years back we had three in the same weekend, including mine.

I wouldn't worry about the numbers.

I'm not a cop, but could it maybe be associated with the weather?  Traffic accidents, public disturbances, and other problems go up when its warm outside.  Maybe the tards are out in force because they can be outside more than if it were snowing?

Sounds like you guys are having more problems than us "big city" guys. Per capita it sounds like you guys are getting in alot more shootings than us. Be careful out there.

I don't know, we had two in NOV(mild weather), two in JAN (snow on the ground)The other two happened in the last month and a half so it's hard to say.

I hear ya. I've been staying after my shift and working on my room / building clearing tactics with a guy on my crew along with reloads for both pistol and rifle. When we're on calls we try to make the most of what we have and clear the house or building even if we know there aren't any threats. I also try to go shooting at least once a month. But like you said there is the majority that aren't doing this, so when the SHTF, they'll prob be running the other way.

Sounds like you're doing it right then.

All depends on how big of an area, how many officers etc. Detroit PD has that in about a month, LOL (hell there are cops that I know of at DPD that have 6 or 7 under their belts themsleves in their carrer). Most we have had in a short time span was 2 in a month and we are only 38 sworn (we were about 45 at the time) and a city of 30-35k. Just remember the bad guys determine how many shootings there are not us. Just continue to be safe but fight the urge to become hypervigalant (its almost as bad as going to far the other way).

No OIS's recently and only 1 this year.  Here the warm/hot as hell weather has a tendency to bring out the worst in people.  Lot's of DP calls for service.  We stay pretty aggressive and still have the reputation from the old timers (old school police work), so the general public usually complies.  It also seems that in the past 10 years there is a seeming lack of respect and that of authority in some areas.  More kids carrying guns and becoming more violent also.

Anyway, stay safe out there and watch your six.

Spoke too soon Bossier1 unfortunately. We had a Louisiana Trooper shot yesterday ,(07/03) from Troop A ( Baton Rouge). He made a traffic stop on an eastbound van on I-10 with Texas tags. The driver got out blasting hitting the Trooper twice. Looks like the Trooper is going to be OK. The bad guys were caught west of the shooting in Troop I (Lafayette). Haven't heard whether or not the two were legals or not. Get the picture.   http://www.2theadvocate.com/news/latest/97734889.html         That is all !

I just got done working a double shift and doing a report on a third of that incident that incident which is connected to tx. The shooter is the last person that you would expect to be shooting at you. That trooper had absolutely no forward warning of the threat either. I have a little survivors guilt right now because If circumstances went down different I may have been able to catch him or his gun last week and have prevented this. This deal just taught me to look hard at everybody regardless of their appearance and don't let your guard down for a second.

Getting hot, economy sucks, 99 weeks of unemployment benefits running out.  Sounds like a perfect recipe for spike in the crime rate, including OIS'.

Damnit!  I shouldn't have said anything.  Just like at work you never say "sure is slow tonight........."

Glad to see he is doing ok.  You never really expect to get ambushed on a stop.  That's why I hate it when people say "routine" traffic stop.
