A few days ago in the topic "KFC", I mentioned that my eating habits hadn't really improved.
Working midshift for years, meals are either lunch or dinner, if they get a title at all. They are hardly ever called breakfast. And since my day schedules constantly shift, I never really have a set eating time. Further, it is complicated by this task or that where people expect you with the blood sugar up but to do that often means eating right before my sleep and that itself is not good. So here I am on vacation, it is lunch time, I'm hungry..............and don't know really what to eat. (a friend just "suggested" a japanese meal, so I'll probably cook up some fish, shrimp, and rice) Do others find themselves in a similar situation? __________________________________________ (He disagreed with something that ate him––––note tied to the remains of shark victim Felix Leighter, (w,stte), "License to Kill") |

Mmmmmm, okay. Just one of those things of eat as I live and let others adjust to my diet?
As it is, I try to keep a supply of my kind of food (and a wok pot) at Mom's house so when I stop by, I'm able to cook or whip up something that is acceptable to me. That's one of the things that came out of learning how to buy food; I'm the raw goods type (but my two brothers are the frozen meals types). Canned fish (sardines, herring, or kippers) are an acceptable source day in, day out to me.....but not to many others. So it is not likely that others will be munching on such....or my supplies. As it was, I did have the fish, shrimp, rice (and some other things mixed in). Maybe a little out of place for the lunch at home.....not so much if I were eating at Pappadeux's. __________________________________________ (Scaramanga has challenged 007 to a duel. i just eat whenever im hungry
This. I like the fact that my meals don't fall into a designated category, and just eat whatever I want when I want with whatever's available. That includes eating breakfast for dinner, lol. I have found an IHOP to be quite convenient for all. |

I eat nearly anything, at any time, by any name. The only thing consistent about my food is that it disappears at with a quickness. This sounds like my habbits. Working 4th shift there really isnt very much variety available and if I forget to pack I am ususally eating gas station food. |

I work EMS, seeking LEO, and yes eating habits are already shot.
I usually work 6pm to 6am, so I usually have "diner" with my family before going into work. Once I get to work, my partner often has to go out for diner, and I try, but its tough to sit their with nothing, so I usually just get a little something. Options are limited to Subway (my favorite and most healthy), McDs, Taco Hell and Pizza Slut, Chiny Food, and a few crummy dinners. On a good night Im in bed and asleep by 10, havent had a good night yet. Even if it is quiet, I still just cant sleep. Usually dont fall asleep till 2am at the earliest (yes we are allowed to sleep). Now around midnight hunger sets in again, often Im able to fight it, but sometimes not which results to a food run to the only place open, McDonalds. Then we have times where we have calls. Regardless of the time of the call, it is ritual to stop after the call at a WaWa or 7/11 near the hospitals to get coffee and food. I guess its like a reward, I dont know. So theres more food. Then I usuaully dont wake up until later in the afternoon, so there goes the most important meal of the day, no breakfast. Between that and a lack of quality sleep I know why I work my ass off and dont lose alot of weight. |

You're on vacation. I say eat what you want, like a cheeseburger and fries, and an ice cold beer (or two). Well, that comes to another point, what to drink.....alcohol when I'm not willing to give it at least 8 hours detox is a general no-no. As it is, last night I mixed up plastic bottles of gatorade (1 fruit, 1 lemon-lime, and 1 ice blue (just to get rid of it, I find I really don't like that flavor)), tea, milk (I'm the powdered kind), and water. That should give me something of a choice with meals but it's one of those things that when I am not on vacation, I find I don't keep up with. And it's one of those things that I should, between Texas heat, a cooking style that loves a lot of garlic and parmesian cheese, alcohol when I can have it, and daily coffee. One might think I would be consciously aware of the need to be constantly hydrated, but it is more subconscious, such as having 6 or so camelbak bladders hanging around the place. Further, when I'm at work, I'll go thru a pot of coffee during my shift for two reasons. First of all, I'm usually the only one there drinking it. Secondly, coffee is one of my norming factors in that it lets me feel like one with the rest of the world.....instead of a vampirelle. But coffee is risky. Twice I've thrown myself into heat cramps because I'll have that pot during work, go home, sleep.....and not have much else to drink. All told, yesterday it was crystal light for lunch (wasn't that good) and some merlot with dinner (hamburger cooked with bleu cheese and garlic for tortillas).......I'm not much of a beer drinker. ____________________________________________________ ("Sir John had been bitten by the deadly tea-tea fly in Africa making it so if he ever drank tea again, he would die."––Holmes explaining to Watson how he knew the butler had done it. Had to come to work tonight, so my "breakfast" was salmon in olive oil in the wok pot (peanut butter base for garlic, cayenne, cumino, chili powder....couldn't find the paprika), potatoes, lentils, split peas, olives, bleu cheese, rice. My cooking standard and probably not a bad meal to take one thru an 8 hour shift. Since it was the meal before work, had milk with it.
But does anyone have suggestions or can point me in the direction of breakfast meals with fish? My freezer has salmon steaks, tilapia fillets, catfish nuggets, and salad shrimp while my pantry has sardines, herring, and kippers. There's always this or that variation of breakfast tacos but there are certain disadvantages there, with tortillas hitting at around 100 cals a slice. One can of course do a lettuce wrap to get around that but right now, I believe that sandwiches and the like are things I should steer away from. My life, when it is not on vacation, is rush rush rush, and i don't think that background stress helps much, so I'm trying to throw norms in here and there.....such as more settled meals. _________________________________________________ ("I'm not going to waste my time arguing with a man who's lining up to be a hot lunch."––Hooper, (wtte), "Jaws") |
