| Well ended up spraining my left hand last night about 30 minutes into my shift. I ended up spending the rest of the night in the ER till they told me nothing was broken. I don't have much strength in my left had so I am much more of a liability out on he road right now. Dr said I should take about a week off to get my strength back. It was a very busy night and I just got stuck listening to it on the radio. Looks like I will get to spend a lot of time on ARFCOM. |
| I know it's enough to drive you nuts not being able to go 10-8. Been there done that. Just don't push it too hard too fast. I managed to "sprain" my right thumb/thumb joint I wound up in a brace for about a month before I went back 10-8 (a little soon I think). Over a year later it still hurts occasionally, pops every so often, and will never be right again. Take the time you need to heal properly if you're anything like me you have a lot of years until retirement. In the mean time try to enjoy the down time. |

Just going to take it as some family time and make sure I am good when I go back. |
| Absolutely right wait until you're 100%, don't let anyone push you too fast, and enjoy the down time if you can. One thing I was thankful for was allowing my sick leave to accumulate when a lot of guys partake on sick leave or vacation conversion for a few extra bucks. Early this year my approx 1 year old 65 pound black lab ran full speed into my right knee...foot didn't budge and the knee took the full brunt of the impact. Knocked me clean on my ass as I heard a loud pop even the wife heard from a good 50 feet away. Thankfully the pop sound was a piece of bone breaking off the outside of my tibia and not a tendon. I wound up being forced to burn 5 weeks of sick leave before my command finally pushed to let me come back on light duty for another 5 weeks. Still sore every once in a while. Yep a lame way to get hurt but it doesn't take much. I took that time to hang out with the wife and family/friends to make the most of it. Hope you heal quickly and completely!! |
