Some great shots there. Having grown up in Hawaii I can't tell you how many times I've been to Hanauma Bay to snorkel. But my favorite has got to be Day #5
Thanx for sharing :) |

I WISH I'd gotten to snorkel there! I'll bet it was fantastic! We just stopped by on our way around the island. Sooo gorgeous there! I'd love to go back. As for the dog licking his face...Yes, it's one of my favorites, too. He'd just learned to crawl the day before, and was spending the day following the dogs and cat around.

You are one hell of a photographer! I left comments on 2 of my favorites. He's such a handsome little man. I'm envious - but in a really good way. Thanks for the comments! I was laughing so hard when I took that pic of him pulling The Mr.'s hair, that I'm surprised it even came out clear! All I could say is 'Now you know why I'm practically bald now!" It seems I'm always pulling my hair out of his little hands.

Quoted: Aw, thanks. I just like to take pictures and play around in Photoshop. I've been taking classes and trying to get better at it, and although I think I'm improving, it's nice to hear someone else say nice things about my work. You could have fooled me! No doubts about it, not only do you have a heaping load of talent but you've got an eye for good pictures! And not many photographers can take good pics of kids, either. What kind of gear are you running?

Great pictures! Thanks for posting the link! On a side note...notice the French man above me used the word "colour". I DID notice that, in fact...and I made a mental note to make fun of him for it, too. Damn Frenchies!!

What kind of gear are you running? I have a Nikon D300. Gave the D40x to The Mr. to play around with. I bit the bullet and bought a Nikon 70-200 2.8 VR, and I love it. LOVE it. Everyone should have this lens. I also have a nifty 50 1.8, a Tamron 90mm 2.8 macro, a Tokina 12-24 f4, and the kit lenses that came with the D40x. I think I have my bases covered as far as zoom/wide angle/macro, which is what I wanted. I'm really enjoying myself. Photography forces you to see the world a bit differently. I like that. ETA: I forgot to say thank you for the kind words. So...thank you. Very much. |

I took a photography class a few semesters ago, but I've just not been able to do much more than using the take-as-many-pics-as-possible-and-some-are-bound-to-come-out-good method since then. I've got a Canon Rebel XT with 50/1.8 and kit lens.

I've got a Canon Rebel XT with 50/1.8 and kit lens. There are two books that have helped me tremendously. Bryan Peterson's 'Understanding Exposure', and Scott Kelby's 'Digital Photography Vol. 1 and 2'. 'UE' really brought the basics home for me where I really understood it. All the books talk about aperture, f stops, ISO and shutter speed, but Bryan has a way of kind of dumbing it down so the normal person can understand it. I liked it so much that I took his 8 week course that was based on the book. Learned a TON. He has an online photography school and offers a bunch of classes on various things. They're great over there! When I first started out, Striker sent me his personal copy of Kelby's 'DP, vol.1', which I've probably read about 10 times (and I need to send it back already!). It's not in a typical book format, it's more like a tip a page, and it explains all about that one tip. Both of those books are awesome, and invaluable to the beginner. As for taking a million shots and hoping one comes out decent, I'm still kind of there. I know enough to make me dangerous, but I'm not shooting blind. I still take a bunch of pics, but now I have more that turn out pretty good. There's just so much more to it than pointing and shooting, but if you can get a good grasp of the basics, you're off to a great start. |
