Okay Ladies, I need an idea for a simple side dish to a dinner party I'm going too tomorrow. It sounds as if its semi casual - the host is bbq a pig and will also have some type of beef dish and a chicken dish on hand. I was asked to bring a side dish. Help!! |

I'm thinking of this? INGREDIENTS * 2 cups whole milk * 2 cups water * 1 1/2 teaspoons kosher salt * 1 cup polenta or yellow cornmeal * 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper * 4 tablespoons unsalted butter * 4 ounces sharp Cheddar cheese, shredded DIRECTIONS 1. In a large pot over medium-high heat, bring milk, water, and salt to a boil. Gradually whisk in polenta. Reduce heat to low, and cover. Cook 20 minutes, until creamy, lifting the lid and stirring every 3 or 4 minutes to prevent sticking. Remove pot from stove, stir in pepper and butter. Gradually stir in cheese. Serve. |

Stuffed mushrooms........quick, easy and damn good! Take a bunch of mushroom caps, sprinkle garlic powder, put a small chunck of butter it it, then fill with bleu cheese. Broil for 10 to 15 minutes until the cheeses is bubbley and the shroom turns dark. ETA: Oops I saw you asked for ladies.......oh well, I'm the cook in my house |
Yum! Control A, Control C, Control V - SAVED! The men in my family [my Dad, brothers & grandfather] are the cooks in their families too. I grew up with men cooking. Patty *ETA* This is what I'm going to do [keep in mind I live an hour from a grocery store so I have to use what I have here at the house]. I got this from allrecipes.com Its high in carbs, high in fat, high in sodium but looks good! INGREDIENTS 1 (2 pound) package frozen hash brown potatoes, thawed 1/2 cup melted butter 1 (10.75 ounce) can condensed cream of chicken soup 12 ounces shredded American cheese 1 (8 ounce) container sour cream 1 teaspoon salt 1/2 onion, chopped 2 cups crushed cornflakes cereal 1/2 cup melted butter DIRECTIONS Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Lightly grease one 9x13 inch baking dish. Place potatoes in bottom of prepared dish. Combine the 1/2 cup butter, condensed soup, cheese, sour cream, salt and onion; mix well and pour over potatoes. Top with crushed corn flakes and drizzle with 1/2 cup melted butter. Bake uncovered at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 45 minutes. |

Patty, I'm the experimenter chef in the family. My wife is a great cook but I'm the one that gets a kick out of it. Sorry I'm too late with this, but try it for the next time. Yummy. Pineapple Casserole 2 (20 Oz.) cans of chunk pineapple 1-1/4 cups sugar (use 1 cup and it’s still great) 3/4 cup all purpose flour 2 cups grated cheddar cheese 1 stack of Ritz crackers 1-1/2 sticks of butter Mix or fold gently with spoon the sugar, flour & grated cheese, Add drained pineapple and mix gently. Put all in 2--quart casserole dish. Top with course crushed crackers. Melt butter and then pour evenly over top of crackers. Bake for 30 minutes at 350 degrees. Stay safe |

Onion Shredded Colby Jack Cheese Townshouse Crackers Mix together until creamy. Chill 1 hour. Roll into small ball and roll in cheese. Also can be used as a dip straight without the cheese. |

Although I am not a woman, I like to try new things. Like some of the others I'm late for the suggestions, but you can try it at the next party. It is a recipe from my Aunt, & it was a big hit when I brought it for a carry-in at work. Broccoli & Rice Cassarole 1pkg (16oz) frozen broccoli 1 stick of butter 1 onion (chopped) 1 cup of instant rice 1 can Cream of Mushroom Soup 1 cup of Milk 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese salt & pepper to taste Saute butter, onion & broccoli until tender. In a 2qt dish- mix the rice, soup, milk, cheese, salt & pepper. Add broccoli mixture- mix well. Bake 30-40 minutes @ 350 degrees- until bubbly & lightly brown. |

Alternate Stuffed Mushroom recipe: Remove the stems from fresh mushrooms. Mix Italian bread crumbs, minced garlic and parmesan cheese (vary the ratio to suit your taste). Spoon mixture into mushroom caps. Drizzle with olive oil Bake at 350 for 15 mins Remove from oven-sprinkle with a little shredded mozzarella Return to oven, under broiler until cheese melts and browns a little I can't keep these on the tray at parties. |

Not a Lady but I do all the cooking at home This is a quick and very easy carry in dish. 4 cans of the sliced potatoes drained you can us raw sliced but it takes longer to cook spread them out in a class baking dish I spray it with Pam first cover with mild cheddar and pepper jack cheese (shredded) 2 cups of milk I cut up a half stick of butter and place it all over the top then bake for about 40 mins or until the cheese has melted down in it real good and started to brown. you can mix the whole mess up before cooking it or just let it melt down thru. when it is just about done sprinkle with crushed up corn flakes UN SWEETENED and let them brown a bit. |
