I had my first parent teacher night and it was great. I bought a book for the class about monsters with googly eyes. My son is doing great. I pretty much got the entire staff that works with him to myself because only one other parent from his class showed up. I bought two ducky books for him (he LOVES ducks), so we have one for potty training and one for sleepy time. I liked that he's getting so much structure. They explained how much art and music he gets in addition to his OT and speech therapy. I'm just so glad that he has teachers that actually care about the kids. I think my son has lucked out with the people that are providing his education thus far. I just hope that he is lucky enough to have such great teachers to see him through all of his schooling. |
thank you gals! i really want to make sure that my son is getting all the help he needs. i don't get to be very involved most of the time because i work full time and i also go to school (online so that i can spend time with him) when i saw that there was a parent teach night i was happy that i was going to see what he does all day. he doesn't talk that well so he doesn't tell me what he does. all i get are art projects (that melt my heart and make me forget about anything bad in the world) i want to stay connected with him and his education. i remember my parents were a bit unplugged with my brothers and me. i don't want to continue that trend. luckily he loves school too. (i hope it stays that way) i figure if i stay on top of things then anything that makes him not love it, i can work with the people involved to change that frown upside-down! man i sound hokey!

| Glad you enjoyed it. Hubby would always go with me, and yes teachers were always surprised that he came. Even when we had IEP meetings he would come. When our son was in high school, teachers actually told our son he was lucky that he had Parents that actually cared. Good luck as the years go by. |

What grade is he in? Only two parents showed up....wow, around here only about 2 parents DON"T show up for conferences. I remember going to the conferences when my girls were in school, I never knew what to talk about. If they were good and their grades were good, not much was said, but if the grades were bad, then lots to talk about. I remember one teacher when my oldest was in 5th grade, made me cry! She was a real bitty. I never did like her when the other two had her either. Never forget that moment! Glad to hear yours went great! Keep up the good job Mom! |
he's in Pre-K, it's a special needs school because he has a speech delay. i should have been more specific. there were plenty of other parents that showed up but only one set from his class. (other than myself) hubby passed away last year so he won't be attending anything. (not that he did when he was alive either) i don't really recall my parents ever going to a parent teachers meeting. maybe when i was in kindergarden. sorry that teacher made you cry! some people just don't know how to talk to others. |
