I have nothing to say in that type of thread.

The way they talk about women...

I probably should keep my mouth shut but that is so difficult to do.  Take a look at my comment though as see where it leads.

Ladies I would love to here your side.  But over in GD it is most likely a trap.

My side?  I believe the women's movement is about equal pay for equal pay regardless of sex.  I believe it was about making the work place better for women and it was to hold men accountable for their children.  Back when I was a kid a man could leave his wife and kids and be gone.  The woman's best prospect was usually a very low wage job to support her kids on.  Sexual harrassment was rampid and there was no recourse for women.  I myself have been sexually harrassed both in the work place but prominent members of society and by one known celebrity.  Back then there was nothing a woman could do about that.  It was often joked "If she can't handle it, she should stay home with her kids."

However LordTrader's question wasn't about the women's movement - it was about respect.  Mutual respect between a man and a woman on a date.  I myself would never expect a man to pay for my meal.  I was taught to discuss the arrangements up front before ordering so that no feelings were hurt.  I've never dated much but when ever I did go out on dates I would ask up front, hey are we going dutch here?  Do you want me to chip in?  Is it my turn to buy?  I have never had a man take me up on my offer to buy him dinner however but I'm always prepared.

Anyway, my point is that women should respect men and visa versa.  I think its nice to have a difference between us.  I enjoy having a man opening the door for me and I am always polite and thank him for doing so.

Thats a mouthful.

I hear ya on the respect.  The thing that gets me is that a lot of my contemporaries do not see it that way.

I was brought up that the man is supposed to pay.  If I asked a girl out I went knowing that I was paying the bill.  If she said she was going to pick it up I would insist and take the bill before she could.  Now if we have been dating for a while then it was a bit of a different matter but then I still ended up paying about 90% of the time.  The other 10% was usually small stuff like snacks and stuff at small outings to the mall and such.

Now I was also brought up that the man was in charge when it came to the relationship (i.e.: family) but he was also nothing with out the support or the help of his wife.  Like my father, he was in charge but he also went with my mother wishes (more often than his own) and respected her side and views.  It’s a two way street.  The man stands at the front but only with the support of his better half.  With out her he is nothing but a tyrant that is nothing better than dog poo.

But on the flip side there are women that do deserve to be disrespected but only because they refuse to give it to others and to them selves.  But I will always treat them with the dignity that I would give any other person because I refuse to lower my self to their level.

The sexual harassment thing is a bit of a touchy subject I know.  But the smart thing to do but few do it is don’t shit where you eat, plain and simple.  That’s for both sides.  I work with a lot of women on my department  and I treat them all professionally and with respect.

ETA: I forgot about the equal pay part.  I agree with you.  If you do the same job as me but better, then you should get more money.

Eh, don't take no mind to LT...he pisses and moans because he can't get dates and then turns around and pisses and moans when he has one. He also likes those high maintanance women...so they shouldn't even be compared to normal women anyway...

I think that there are plenty of fair females in this world. I always try to cover part of the bill, tip, or get the next meal purchased yada yada. If they want to get nit picky about equal rights, tell me why most men can't seem to pick up the ball when it comes to raising their children, or devoting time to their families instead of work.

There is no such thing as equal rights, there is ever only compromise. One will always do more than the other in certain areas, but in a truly working relationship the other will pick up the slack where the first left off - and they won't piss and moan about it. It's mutual giving although perhaps not always an equal amount.

No, as I posted over there, they are not talking about women, they are talking about girls.

There are not many women in the dating pool.  The women don't stay in the dating pool long.

What's left are the girls, and the descriptions given in that thread are pretty accurate
when talking about girls.

I think the door swings both ways for the over generalized crowd.  I think upon reflextion the thought of what were doing here and how we present ourself to everyone should be the ticket to many issues society faces.  However, its the ones who can not look at themselves as the problems [both sexes] that truly hurt all the most.

Exactly, Patty.  It's the men who blame the entire "species of womenz" for their woes in life.  Doesn't it seem to make sense, that if you're having bad relationship after bad relationship, that maybe the problem lies within yourself?  No.  It's easier to blame women in general, and give up on any hope of a good relationship, and instead use them as sexual outlets.

It's always someone else's fault, isn't it?

I love those threads.  I usually stay out of them b/c they tick me off...It's a true representation of the double standard at it's finest, and really makes me wonder about the class of some men.

If a man asks a lady out, it's his duty to pay. But on the same token a thank you after dinner would be nice. This does not mean sex.

If you are dating, both have jobs, then it should be more of a 50/50 split.
