What day is yours? My little boy Wyatt's is the 11th and my daughter Whitney's is the 15. Patty |
Oh that's so sad. But look at all the good stuff Blake brought.....MMmmmm. (Want me to have a talk with him?) |
I hear ya on that one Sister! My bday is Feb 21st. I told my boyfriend of 11 months that in no way shape or form were presents for Valentine's Day and Birthday to be combined. His response? "you give presents on Valentine's Day?" UGH!!! MEN!
|
![]() Can't blame the guy for trying! ETA: Since when did Valentine's become a women's holiday? Nothing directed to anyone specifically, but I have noticed women seem to expect gifts on Valentines, but few that I know give them. |
Then I met somebody a few years back who grew up exchanging gifts for just about any occasion. The Easter gift exchange was as big a deal to them as Christmas was. I forgot what other days they did that on, but they did it a LOT. It seemed like every other week she was mentioning buying gifts for a gift exchange of some type. I didn't understand it then, and I still don't. Gifts are supposed to be special, not routine. |
Have to say it, I always remember the Mr on valentines day. And that is if I get something or not. |
|
I actually have already ordered the V day gift for my boyfriend...so it does go both ways. Men are just so darn hard to buy for on Valentine's Day. All the ideas they show on websites are so cheesy. But I came up with an awesome idea..... and he's a member here, so I won't say what. |
| I'm getting an AR parts kit for valentines day and I'm getting my husband a Dillon 650. I figure that would be a heck of a lot more fun than some chocolates. However, if he wants to throw some nice match ammo into one of those heart shaped boxes, I wouldn't be opposed. |
Oh sure, I know some women do. I have a female friend that does far more for her husband on V-day than anyone I've ever seen. So they're out there, just doesn't seem like a 50/50 kind of holiday anymore. Maybe it's just the commercialization of it. Can't remember ever seeing a TV commercial where the women did something for the guy, but you're hounded with "Buy her a diamond. Or 12." Commercials for the whole damn season. BTW: I hate TV, if you couldn't tell. |
Yep I know what you mean. From here until after the holiday, the radio and tv will be filled with the ads "buy her a diamond". It does make it seem like a "womans" holiday. |
|
My opinion is that valentine's day is one of those "card holidays" where it's more meaningful to give something handmade or something that can be shared between the couple, like a date night for a married couple who never find time to go anywhere, a nice hotel for a couple who normally just stay at home, and if affordability is an issue...just do something for your bf/gf that isn't part of the normal routine. Be the gift for the other person...a "love slave" for the night. Romance is supposed to come from the heart, not the wallet. |
I don't know about anyone else, but I'd take that over a diamond any day.

For those of you looking for cheap ideas.... I remember when we were totally broke one Valentine's day. I wanted to do something really special. So.... I decroated the bedroom. Red hearts everywhere, cupids hanging[all hand made with scraps of lace and construction paper, etc.,.., red lightbulb in the lamp, candles, flowers, a few mints on each pillow and rose petals [from the gardens all over the neighborhood--with permission of course] strewn all over! And I got out the christmas lights and made a big heart on the garage door for when he came home from work that said "I love you" inside of it. And of course, I dressed up in his favorite outfit.,[to meet him at the door in it!] I had the candlelight dinner waiting in the dining room, then we proceeded into the master bath,... he couldn't believe his eyes!! gave him a bubble bath in candlelight and more rose petals... and off to enjoy our special room!! I spent under $10.00 and it was a night neither of us will ever forget!! It doesn't take money to make a happy honey!!! Ps- Put some vanilla and cinnamon in a pot of water on the stove for a few hours. It will fill the house with wonderful smells! |
|
What do I do with the kids? (5&2) Duct tape them in their rooms? Oh, and who's going to clean up all those petals? What a mess! Sorry, feeling grumpy old farty this V-day. |
1....sister loves babysitting !!! But at that time, she couldn't. So I set them up with pizza and movies in their room! And explained that we respect their wishes all the time, and this time,.they have to respect ours. It all worked out! 2....ME!!! I still have them in a special crystal vase with a lid. The petals are now dried and smell lovely. Whenever I open them, I remember the night....Part of my job as a mom and wife is cleaning. I don't mind..I love my job! 3....Love isn't just for lovers. It is for friends, relatives, and even pets. Share some,,,you'll feel better! |
What kind of women do you know? All of the women that I know give Valentine's Day gifts to their husbands or boyfriends also. Most of the time my husband and I exchange gifts, but last year my husband and I agreed not to give each other gifts, but to go to a nice restaurant instead, and I think it was my idea. We had a very nice time! |
I'm with you. Most of the gifts my husband and I give to each other are gun related in some way. The point is to give the other person something to make him or her happy. |
Bad ones apparently. |
