| I know a ton of men whose wife's will not go shooting with them. Do any of you ladies have a husband or Boyfriend that won't go shotting with you? |
|
I am in this catagory. I raise hunting dogs so I hunt for a living [I also work as a guide for both birds and big game]. I litterally put on the french maids outfit and gave my husband a lap dance to get him to take me Elk Hunting this year AND Then the only reason he did was because I finally pulled out my ultimate gun and told him that if he didn't take me hunting I was telling all of his buddies that I have to beg him to go hunting with me. I will go Elk hunting with you next year and I won't even make you lap dance for me |
No offense, but If I knew I could get a lap dance by holding out on hunting, I would hold out every year. All I gotta do if find a GF/Wife that hunts.

Does she want to move to TN? Or better yet, can i just move to OR? edited because I lost my train of thought somewhere amongst the hunting/french maid story, the picture, and the bit about having a sister....... |
|
Well Sadly my single sister lives in the People's Republic of Califoria. I'm not sure if she hunts to be honest but she is a belly dancer [hobby] so I'm sure she's much better at the lap dances than I am. Now about TN. Do you have pheasants in TN? If not than by all means come to Oregon. :) Patty |

I had that problem with my ex-husband. When I wanted to buy a handgun for self-defense, he didn't want me to buy it. He said it was too expensive. I thought a few hundred dollars was a small price to pay for my personal protection. My one and only guilt trip resulted in me getting the handgun, but he didn't want to go to the range with me until he realized that there were all of these men there that did like firearms, and I was always the only woman. That is one of the reasons that he is the ex-husband. ![]() My husband is the exact opposite. He loves guns. A friend of ours introduced us because we both loved guns so much. I asked him to take me hunting, and I was hooked. So it was a match made in heaven. |
|
In my case, it seemed like men were the keepers of this "secret knowledge". My uncle let me shoot his rifle when I was about 9 or 10 years old. Later, I asked my step-father to take me shooting, he was a collector and previously a sporting clays competitor, but he didn't go shooting much any more when I knew him and never took me. Later, I asked my then fiance now husband to teach me. He did and got into shooting even more than ever. At the time, I was young and afraid to even touch a gun lest I accidentally set it off. I might have learned to shoot without a male influence, but am uncertain. (ETA: Never had problem with getting Hubby to go shooting with me, except when I was shooting silhouettes.) |
|
My ex wouldn't shoot with me once he learned that I was the better shooter. But I grew up on the range and some of my earliest memories are of the family going to the range. My lastest ex is a shooter, so that wasn't a problem. Now I have a hard time because most guys when they find out that I'm a shooter always say the same thing "I don't want to piss you off, you'll shoot my ass." Where are the single men that arn't afraid of a little healthy competition? The only thing I draw the line at is reloading...I don't do it. That and kill spiders, that's what God created men for! |
I'm game, And yes, we have pheasant here in IL. Bring her to gunstock next year, That'll make sure I get there. |
I have a .308 for hunting. I got a couple of hogs two years ago and love everything about hunting, just don't have anyone to go with. I would really be interested in getting a trip put together for next year if you're game |
|
A .308 is a dandy elk rifle and I'd be happy to have your company. We'll just stay in touch. Elk season is a little tricky here in Oregon. I'm too lazy to go back and look what state you're in but my suggestion is an out of state license and a spike only tag would be the most affordable. If you've got a little bit of money to drop than you can put in for a hair tag with me next year. I'll let you know what season I draw. I only put in for cow tags as I guide and I leave the bulls for clients [you're welcome to go for a bull of course]. I hunt in a pretty rugged area but would be happy to guide for you. I generally shoot my cow ASAP and get that out of the way. I also suggest putting in for a bear and cougar tag [under $50 bucks for out of staters] as they're there and it's awfully fun to shoot one if you don't have to worry about who's looking over your shoulder. I'm already excited! I'm in Texas and rugged is my middle name (or so I keep telling myself |

I'm already excited! I'm in Texas and rugged is my middle name (or so I keep telling myself Elk hunting is a lot of fun. I still remember the first cow I shot. My heart was beating 6 billion beats a second [or so it seemed]. I was stuck with a rifle I didn't know. All my rifles are semi auto and this was a pump and everytime I shot I thought the *&$%^& gun jammed. I would shoot and say "It jammed! It jammed! and my husband would say "all right Patty [very calm voice] you need to pump the rifle now" PUMP KaBOOM. I saw [after I wrote] that you were in Texas and considering you shoot an .308 you're at least one up on some of the yahoos that hunt up here. I hunt in the rugged area to weed out the drive by shooters. It keeps me safe and you see some very nice elk this way. Patty |

Sounds like a blast! I would have to say the proudest moment I have had since the birth of my children has been dropping my first hog @ 100yds with one shot. The guys said"you missed him..." and then they said "he went down" and we went running up to it...and it was down. A strange feeling as I had never taken the life of anything, but so proud of myself I wanted to bust out in tears...but instead...I cracked a brew and was thankful he went down without suffering. [brew] It takes a lot for me to prous of myself, but that did it right there. After three days of trudging throught he woods...you gotta love the hunt! ![]() [sorry for hijacking the thread but I'm excited!] |
All right I'll take you elk hunting in exchange for hog hunting! What rifle should I bring? That sounds like a lot of fun. I agree with you on being sensitive to what you shoot. Everything we shoot we eat. I have a VERY skinny 15 year old boy that could eat enough to feed a small army! For me elk hunting is the most fun close 2nd is Antelope. We call these speed goats. If you're really lucky and aim for the first you might hit the 3rd! Patty |
I missed this: I have to admit, I'm a lousy shot. I guess that is why I'm such a good guide. I've never guide for a woman before and I think the men appreciate that I'm not a better shot than they are. I think I would do better if my husband would leave my dang rifle alone. I did much better with open sites! Patty |
You got a deal! Hog hunting is a huge amount of fun since you never know if they'll be PO'd enough to come at ya. I prefer to walk and hunt, as opposed to stand hunting, so it's good exercise as well. Just nice being in nature although I'm sure that Oregon is much more beautiful as far as scenery is concerned. |

Awesome! Oregon is very pretty. I too do not have the patience to sit in a stand. I hate it enough having people stay in an area and try to "herd" the elk to them. I've only seen this work once but usually end up trying this a few times a hunt. The elk are literally huge goats and they love to hang out in heavily wooded area with tons of fallen trees. When they circle around you when you're in the trees it reminds me of the scene on Jurassic Park where the guy is hunting the Rapture at the end. You can sense they're there but you can't see them and then one will snort and it will make every hair on your body [even some you didn't know you had!] stand straight up! Pretty wicked. Occasionally you'll drive up to a herd of 200+ and have a buffalo kill but this isn't the norm by any means. I'm really looking forward to when my daughter can come and hunt with me. She's 13 and just about ready but still pretty young to be trampling through the rough woods. Patty |
