My hubby and I have talked about getting our CCWs, but I am wondering about the best way to carry. Women's clothing doesn't seem like it would conceal much, and I don't normally carry a purse. I suppose I could start carrying a purse, but that also seems like it would make it very difficult to get to the gun if I needed it. Do you ladies carry? How do you carry? Maybe I should add a poll..... |
I don't have my CCW yet, but a friend of mine uses one of these when she jogs.![]() Edited to add link: www.gungear.com/fanny.html |

Then there's this you can look at: www.womensholsters.com/choosing.html |
|
I carry mine in a Conceal Carry purse. I ordered mine at www.CoronadoLeather.com . I love it and I can get to my gun if I need to. I paid 95 dollars for it 5 years ago. It has a mettle mesh in the strap. So that no one can come behind you and cut your should strp with a knife. I've been very happy with mine. They also have a Backpack purse I want to get. I don't like holsters. Their too bulky for me! Mona |

I'm also a man lurking in the wimminz forum. IMO, the fanny pack announces to the world that you likely are armed. There are certain advantages and disadvantages to that, but if you want pure concealment value, that's not the way to go. For ease of access, and not actually showing the weapon, it is close to perfect. |
+1 for Coronado gun-purses (on behalf of "Mrs. HardShell," who doesn't post here on Arfcom but has a couple of these purses which have served her very well over the years). She also has an old Galco gun-purse that was very nice. [another Y-chromosome-afflicted lurker |

Lurking here also. Coronado is a very good company, with high quality products, but there are a lot of companies in the business of catering to the ladies regarding concealment. There are holsters for the female build, vests and quite a few companies making purses that not only look good but hide a handgun effectively/safely. Gun magazines/trade papers have a lot of ads. I think that generally speaking women MAY have a tougher time concealing a gun, but I also believe that too often it is a matter of fashion instead of function. Please don't flame me gals...just my .02 worth. |
Man lurking here - and yes. |
![]() I think I will need to go with a purse for now. The kids are still little, so I'm usually carrying the baby on my hip, and that would not be very pleasant at all with a gun digging into us both. Hmmm, I wonder if they make a diaper bag with a holster in it....

I have a shoulder-strap purse with a long narrow back pocket that I modified to become a quick-access holster. I put a long pull-strap on the zipper and keep that side next to my body. I've practiced drawing with it and it works well - doesn't get caught on anything and the space below the grip holds two speed-loaders. Purse is heavy black canvas, so there's no significant silhouette. The only problem is the weight; even for an Airweight, it's heavy. Plus, the barrel has cut through the canvas in a wear spot so now I need to patch and reinforce that area. Other than that, it works well. ~Sarah |

From a male lurker! This question came up last October and I asked a friend (a GOAL BOD member and producer of a radio talk gun show for the past 7 years in Liberal MA!) for the reference to what he and his Wife had designed for her use. Here's his reply to me with the URL that leads to the "Bosom Buddy" (double click on the picture and you'll see more that show the holster) and some other holsters designed specifically for women. Hope this info is useful to some of you. "The manufacturer is Rusty Sherrick and the holster can be "Seen" at www.c-rusty.com/pages/holsters/Ladies.html. Tell him I sent you. ----- Tom LaRoche" Regards, LenS |

In the past I would just take it with me and leave it in my vehicle, so I voted "other". I have a nice leather paddle holster but would never choose to use such a beast as it would be entirely impossible for me to "conceal carry" anything around my waist...so even the cool Kydex holsters are out for me hinking.gif However...I just purchased a really cool Maxpedition hip pack (pretty much a combination of a small backpack and a Blackhawk drop holster) that has that tactical look to an accessory that I love so much! It has a larger zippered pocket in the rear and and front pouch with handy pockets for all my necessities, and I can carry both my Sig and my S&W backup with ease should I ever need to do a little two handed target practice http://img78.photobucket.com/albums/v335/sigziggy/Maxpedition.jpg http://img78.photobucket.com/albums/v335/sigziggy/Maxpedition_with_boomers.jpg |

I like the diaper bag idea! Maybe with that awesome stitching machine prowess of QuietShootr's and the ingenuity of the ladies here, we could all quit our day jobs and go into business making sensible women's gear herefor goodness sake...you mean to say there is a special child proof pocket for a g...g...g...gun in that bag with the baby's things???? |

Hope it's ok with you Gals if I lurk here once in a while. The info you provide me on what equipment works well for you, is very handy as I have three daughters ages 21, 19, 17. The two oldest girls have learned how to handle firearms but show little interest other than that but the youngest likes to shoot and will be getting her license to carry when she turns 21. Thanks Joe |
Count me as another person who likes the diaper bag idea. Unfornately, I don't have kids and am not married. In addition to the fact, that I don't have a gun(all the toys belong to my bro) and no money for LTC. h |

Coronado Leather has got some really nice looking purses coming out this fall, and they are offering a pre-order discount. I have one of their Hobo bags which works well for me but I'm not big into suede. I had to get the larger purse because my XD9 is too big for the smaller one. I really like the Siena Hobo and the Siena Flap (but I think the flap might be too small for my pistol). |

Hi ladies and fellow lurkers, I have found the smartcarry holster to be a good option for concealed carry (www.smartcarry.com) It is good for men or women and lets you wear almost anything and still not "print" It takes a little practice to be able to draw quickly but once you get the hang of it it's fairly quick. It is made of a heavy denim and is machine washable. It works well for me and I will get one for my wife when she gets her permit. Any way good luck in finding somthing that works for you Rick36 |

just a male lurker! ![]() damn that looks like a great idea. I will be looking for it at the gun show this weekend! |

Hi cat, Well my wife does not yet have one so I do not have any personal experience yet, but smart carry sent a brochure with my order that has a few pics of a lady with a smart carry. She is a thin woman in shorts and a belly shirt and it seems to conceal well. Of course it's hard to tell from just pics. YMMV. I would tend to think that it would work well (guy or girl) as long as what your wearing is not super tight. I looked through the testimonials on the smart carry web site before buying and there seemed to be at least a few happy female customers. Again this is little more than advertising so YMMV. As for using the rest room, it really is not to big a deal you just kind of rotate the holster a couple of inches one way or the other (depending on right or left handed) and do what ya gotta do. It's a good idea to practice a few times at home first to get the hang of doing it. As for a woman or a man sitting, the band is elastic so you can just pull it up form your hips to your waste and it is out of the way. Oh and just for your info I carry a Springfield Amory XD 40 4 inch barrel, not by any means a compact firearm. Also, the people at smart carry are (in my one experience) very nice and helpful. |
I got it at the C.T.O (Crows Tactical Outfitters) table. They have a website as well. www.crowstacticaloutfitters.com ENJOY! |
Thanks for the info! Nice Sig! My P239 is a 40 S&W |
