Semi auto firearms or Fully auto firearms? Who exactly invented them?Hiram Maxim? John Browning? Thanks

Semiautomatic firearms came first, with the invention of the revolver by Samuel Colt (patented in 1835 in Europe, and the following year in the US).  The first machine gun was invented by Richard Gatling in 1862, followed by the fully automatic Maxim Machine Gun in 1885.

Not to argue, but do you mean gas operated guns? Also do you mean first operational weapons or first designed?

IIRC the Nordenfeldt cane out before the gatling.  I'm not sure of the year though.

I think Browning came out with the first machinegun, but maxim was close behind. Hell, Maxims are still in use in some places today.

As far as I know the Russians produced the first operational semis, both for themselves and Mexico.
