My grandmother gave this to me when my grandfather passed away many years ago. He was in the 109th Machine Gun Battalion during WW1 Mar 1918 to April 1919.

Not sure if this is part of his uniform or not but extensive searching has turned up fruitless. Anyone out there have any idea what this was?

I realize it has 69 on it and he was in the 109th...but I just don't know if it had to do with something else. Thanks for any help.

Hope this is OK to post this in here, didn't really see anyplace else unless I missed it for which I am sorry.

I'm gonna make a wild guess and say it was his chow line number.

Its a weapons tag. The soldier was issued rifle/pistol #69. This was recorded in the Company files. He kept the disc until he removed the rifle/pistol then he left the tag in the rack. That way they always knew who had which gun. Either the tag or the rifle was in the rack. The gun also had a Unit marking with the same number. Same thing used today except its a weapons card. My guess is that is WWI or earlier.
