Anyone have any? or have riders on their home owner's insurance or anything?

I am an insurance agent..
You can get a "rider" on your property insurance (renters, condo or home policy) your basic coverage has only limited coverage for guns. This vary by company (1500-5000) to company. Keep in mind you ahve a deductible and usualy they have a per item limit (usualy $1000). This "rider" is called a SPP or scheduled personal property (guns, furs, juwelery, fine art, china,.....) will give you a 0 deductible and the per item limit you want. Example: you own a $2500 gun with a $500 deductible and a $1000 per item limit........regular coverage only for theft and fire you get $1000 settlement Example: same but you have it scheduled ....... your settlement is $2500 In terms of insurance through the NRA....i have heard (not verified by me) that they insure more collections that are not used (fired) |

I have my personal guns as well as my business firearms covered through Collectables Insurance.
You don't have to give serial numbers. http://www.collectinsure.com/index.html |

I am thinking about going from the NRA/Lockton insurance to the Collector Inc insurance. I just sent them an email. I'll post the correspondence when I get a reply. Some of my questions were: is the stuff covered if it is stolen from a vehicle or someone else's house? If some of your stuff is property of a (nfa) trust, can it be covered under the same policy, or does it need its own? and BTW, FUCK Gieco! Pricks |

Quoted:
Personal articles policy. $10,000 for about $100.00 a year. Edit: $50.00 deductible. Ouch! That's expensive. Collectibles is a good deal cheaper than that. They do cover loss from a car. They don't cover CCW guns or those "used frequently" (ambiguous definition in policy). http://historicfirearms.com covers all guns, regardless of use/status. Cheaper than Collectibles or NRA. |

I looked over their site a bit. They say they are for the "collector w/ at least a $25k investment". I am not quite to that point yet. Do they cover guns stolen from your car. What if it is stolen from another's home or car? Can you tell us what you pay per $1k of coverage? |

Eastern Ins/Chubb was ~$4.26/K
Collectibles/Lloyds was ~$6.06/K TTBOMK, none of these companies REQUIRE a $25K minimum. Check their websites for rates and verify what they are currently and any minimum premium. The rates I quoted above were from the beginning of this year and everything is subject to change . . . that I won't know about until I go to renew next year. Both of the above I am told, cover theft regardless of where it happened (car, range, house, friend's house, etc.) |

More info:
Collectibles rate sheet (exc. NJ/PA) - http://www.collectinsure.com/rates/2008GunCollectorRateSheet.pdf Starts at $3K coverage for $17.00/yr. NJ/PA rate sheet is $3-6K for $30.00/yr!! (so essentially it is a $30.00 premium minimum). http://www.collectinsure.com/rates/2008GunCollectorPANJRateSheet.pdf ––––––––––––––––––––––––- Eastern Insurance - regrettably no estimated pricing is on the website, but there is a FAQ that should answer some questions here. http://historicfirearms.com/FAQ.html |

Interestingly, I got a email asking me to complete a survey about my NRA endorsed insrance the other day. I did and submitted this comment:
"I will cancel the policy soon b/c the price is two high. Premiums are ca $17.40/$1000 of coverage. This is substantially too high. I have found two other companies, one of which I will go with. One of the companies is a little more than $6/1k, the other will probably be less than that. Frankly, I am sorely disappointed that the NRA led its members to purchase this incredibley ovepriced product. It may be the case the the serive that Lockton offers is better than those other two companies and a somewhat higher premium is warranted. But no amount of customer service can justify ca three time the premium. It is so extreme, it makes me wonder if the NRA is entertaining a conflict of interest. FYI, the other companies that I have found so far are: Collectible Insurance Services and Eastern Insurance"

Well don't worry about going through Geico. I tried to get my renters insurance through them and they said they couldn't cover me because I owned an "assault rifle". I will never, ever buy insurance from this company, even if the cute little gecko blows... I mean... They are the "Government Employees Insurance Co." and when they started to branch out, refused to do motorcycle insurance, even going so far as cutting off people who had car insurance if they found out they also owned a motorcycle.
