i got a ticket for making to much noise at my house during my 23 birthday. it wasnt a rager and no one was getting out of had we were just being  to loud for that time of night. i was woundering how much trouble i am in. the ticket was labled a criminal offence. i was just worried that i would not be able to apply for my long gun/handgun  licens anymore. any info would be great.

You should probably turn in your guns now. They will come for them.

Seriously though.. you may want to ask this in your hometown forum or look up the laws yourself. See why you can be denied for your permit and see what the fines/penalties can be.

In most states, Disorderly Conduct is a summary offense, generally punished by a fine.  It's possible to get up to 90 days for it, but that almost never happens without some other reason (ie - they can't get you on a more serious charge).

If it is in fact a criminal offense rather than a summary offense in your state I suggest hiring an attorney. They may be more able, than you representing yourself, to have the charge lowered to a summary offense (or whatever non-criminal offenses your state has).

It is likely not an issue either way, currently, but who knows what firearms law changes may come down the road. I don't know what your states laws are regarding handgun licenses but they likely have clauses that state something along the affect of 'or are you currently awaiting trial on..." You should probably not bother making any applications until the case and charges are resolved no matter which route you take.

It is usually a 'junk offense' that a lwayer will easily beat.

Very few of the laws adequately define what is excessive noise in a manner that will stand up to an attorney.

You have to decide if the $$ are worth it.

i cant speak for hi, but in new york i can usually get a discon kicked town to an adjournment in contemplation of dismissal. in other words the case is adjourned and if you are a good boy for 6 months it will be dismissed as if it never happened. i suggest a lawyer. at 23 you do not need to have a record that will follow you for life.
