| Does anyone know what happens to a Marine (or service member) if they go on leave and get a DUI? I am wondering where the order on this is. Does anyone know the order? |

C'mon. For your first post you're asking a left field question. A question that had you used your normal "everyday" arfcom account to ask, someone you know would have busted you and therefore you've had to creat a new one to hide your shame... Who comes to arfcom to ask DUI questions...You were just tripping my BS detector, that's all. |
It is kinda suspicous

"Wow, I sure love this AR-15.com site, it's the coolzor!...Yay, I finally got an account. I can't wait to start posting!...Alright, for my first attempt at tapping the almighty hivemind I'm going to ask about...DUI?!?" ![]() ![]() ETA: Can I get an IP addy check on isle 9? |

I'm pretty sure the penalty for a DUI conviction is pretty costly, and may involve jail time, loss of license, and increased insurance rates. The Army used to give E-1's to E-4's one ooopsie. If they were E-5 and up one DUI resulted in a kick out. I don't know what you got planned, but find your kicks some other way than DUI. |

Comes down to if your unit finds out or not. if it happened nowhere near a military installation, your unit may never know. The trick might be having to take leave to go to the court date. If you are close or just outside your base, the cops there generally send the arrest info to the base commnanders office and let the military deal with it. And this is not a moral question. I don't run and tell my boss everytime I get a speeding ticket. |
+1 If you have any kind of clearance, better to let someone know. I watched my squad leader go from ssgt to cpl in a snap. Of course, he was trying to drive onto a base drunk. |
| To answer your question up top, you are probably looking at Article 15 - NJP. It really is up to your commander, but if you're a Marine, I suggest you inform your commander before he finds out on his own. Even if the police don't forward the citation to the base, odds are your buddies know about it and talk gets around. |
Also, if he currently has a security clearance and does not report an arrest, he can not only have his clearance revoked, but will be in even more trouble than if he reported it in the first place. |
