Hello everyone. After reading about what happened with everyone being disarmed after hurricane katrina, I was wondering. Does the government/ATF know I have an AR-15 in my home? (I bought it legally at my local gunshop, and filled out the form) I mean, if something like that happens where I live, I don't want my gun to be taken away >_>

All they have to do is pull the yellow form you filled out when you bought the rifle.

I belive that is what was done when the two snipers were shooting people in the Northeast a few years ago.

Av,

The rifle was stolen.  No 4473 was ever filled out.

Sorry Mr. BATFE agent... I sold those evil guns at a pawn shop so I could pay my sick mothers medical expenses.

Correct, but 4473's were pulled for all AR-15 rifles in the area.

Several dozen people reported geting visits from the ATF.

How could that be?  Keeping those records is illegal.

Whether you believe it or Not , we already HAVE DeFacto gun registration.

All large Firearms MFGs keep computerized records.

So do wholesalers and large retailers.

The Govt. keeps Everything on computers.

All they have to do is let the machines talk to each other.

Keeping those records is required by law for...what...20 years now?

There is no registry. However, FFL's are required to keep the 4473's for a long long time. ATF can request to see the 4473's. So....yeah....[jedi] there is no registry[/jedi]

God only knows what kind of records the gov't has on guns....

Considering our Uniform Firearms Act forbids a registry in PA.  We have to fill out a seperate form for handgun purchases which goes to their database.  But somehow that isn't a registry?  Just a record of 99% of the handguns in PA.  Bunch of bullshit.

Yes.....that be the guys who were killing people in my area.

Didn't do them any good. I remember they were talking about testing EVERYONE'S guns.

They can track them by phone call from the manufacturer to the distributor and then to the dealer, then they usually go the dealer and "ask" for a copy of it. As far as I know they do not have any direct access to the records, but can get them with a few phone calls.

If there is a dealer out there, they can correct me if I am wrong.  If I am not mistaken, the government does not keep records of when you bought your AR from a dealer, but they do have record of where the weapon goes from the manufacturer.  I believe the dealer then has to keep very good records of who they sell weapons to because they have to be able to account for every weapon sold, showing they did the background checks, etc.  So all they would have to do is go to the original dealer and ask who bought the weapon.
