| I just received my ffl forms from batf, it only took five days to get them, that is suprising from what I have read about batf. I currently own a convienence store, and I am incorperated, down the road, I plan on building a larger building, with three additional store fronts, one of them will be a gun store, this will be a subsidiery of my current corp. but I want to go ahead and get my ffl, now the questions, Do you have to have a store front to have a ffl? Can you have a ffl and not be a dealer? Can you use your home as a store front? Can you get a ffl for a corp, or does it go to an individual? ANY HELPFUL THOUGHTS, HINTS ,ADVICE OR ANY ADDITIONAL INFO WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED! Thanks Treeman, also I am a firefighter, and the capt. of our shooting team for the Southeastern Police and fire games, I want to go ahead with ffl, because we are building our own AR's, and as all of you know it is cheaper, and easier, to order parts etc. for our builds, with your own ffl. THANKS AGAIN TREEMAN |

If you list you're home as the place of business it would have to be zoned for that. BATF really dosen't care as long as the town signs off and gives you a license to operate from there. If you tell BATF that you're not ready to open up yet they will ask for a date. You will have to change the location on you're FFL when you open in the new place you are building. You already have a tax number, so as long as the town says you are zoned from you're house it's should be no problem On the question can you have a ffl and not be a dealer that answer is no. |
| so you think I could go ahead and get ffl, for business, through my home and then transfer address, to store later? My house is zoned residential, I don't know if it would be ok or not zoning wise? but do I have to be a dealer? I want to go ahead, so I can buy parts for ar builds? It's late, I just reread your reply about ffl, and not being a dealer, forgive my stupidity! and THANK YOU FOR THE REPLY |
| In addition, to my top post, if I used my current store front, does it have to say gun store, or could I use it and just not advertise the gun store part? also bear inmind, that I haven't even opened the letter, containing the forms, I want to get all of my ducks in a row, before I put ink to paper. and if I opened it I would want to start filing them out, I just want to do it right the first time. |
| I f the town hall won't give you a business license to operate from you're home ATF will deny the license . Unless you want to use you're other store as the place of business since it is zoned commercial there no way ATF will approve it from anywhere not zoned for it. Yes you have to be a dealer for profit. You will be asked all these questions. A agent will come and interview you before he signs off on anything and will ask to see where you will be selling out of. I went threw this two years ago. |
It would not have to say gun store .But the agent will ask how will the firearms be stored .Is there a alarm system in place things like that |
| I gothcha! I will check with the county, and see if they will allow me to do business, out of my home, the conv. store way just wouldn't fly, also I was told that if you did business out of your home, you had to post regular business hours, and that the atf checks up on them, story was guy doing bus. out of garage, said hours 6pm-10pm, and he told them come by anytime he would be there 6-10, it it flew. THANKS AGAIN! |
I don't think it would be a problem at all, the agents are not really trying to deny it ,they just have a check list that they have to follow. And on the application you will see the part about the hours of operation |
| Thats good, you have been alot of help, I assume that you would have to keep a log, and it would have to be on premisis, and any guns logged in, that haven't been logged out must also be on premisis, When you do the yellow (now white form) form, does it get faxed, or phoned in? and do you actually talk to a person? these may sound dumb, but I never knew what the ffl did when he went in the (backroom)? |
|
Yes any firearm comming in or going out goes in you're bound log book. And yes if you have a gun logged in you're book and it's not in you're store you better find out where it is! The yellow form is a 4473 it does not have to be faxed but you must keep them for you're records. You will be issued a NICS number to call to get a approvel before you sell a gun to someone. Many states have differant laws .My state you have a seprate logbook for handguns sales .You will find all this out by contacting you're state weapons unit. Just because atf says something is legal ,it might not be in you're state so do all you're home work.Evreything is automated , but you still can talk to a live person.I hope this all makes sense its late and when i read this tommoro I will see good luck on it |
