I have a couple of very beat up USGI mags would it be legal for me to replace the mag bodies with LEO stamped ones? I have read some posts saying that if you make the original mag body unusable lets say by crushing it and keeping it as proof that the body is indeed a replacement then it is legal. I checked the atf webpage and i found this "(O7) Are replacement parts for grandfathered semiautomatic assault weapons and large capacity ammunition feeding devices subject to regulation under the law? [Back] No. Parts may be replaced in grandfathered semiautomatic assault weapons and grandfathered feeding devices without violating the law. However, if the frame or a receiver for a semiautomatic assault weapon is defective, the replacement must be made by the weapon's manufacturer or importer. The replacement receiver must be parked with the same serial number as the original receiver, and the original receiver must be destroyed. However, a manufacturer or importer who is unable to mark the replacement receiver with the same serial number as the original receiver may seek a marking variance in accordance with 27 CFR 178.92. In addition, the permanent records of the manufacturer or importer should indicate that the receiver for the weapon has been replaced. " Now reading i would think its legal. If i do keep the mag bodies would i be in the clear? Technically i would be following the law. |

Yes, it is legal. Also probably kind of uncomfortable to go around sporting the 'restricted' markings, though. You couldn't take possession of a complete high capacity magazine, either - although just the shell would be legal. Ideally, some mag manufacturer would make new, unmarked pre-ban replacement bodies, as is done for some race pistol mags, but so far no one with the tooling to make them has taken that plunge. With a little luck and some lobbying on our part, we won't have to worry about it anymore in 16 1/2 months anyway. |

Hi Ya ... You can replace any and all parts of you Hi-cap mags. You only can't do it all at once and you are not supposed to have more mags in the end, then when you started. When I was in the mag parts sell game,I sold hundreds and hundreds of mag parts all over the U.S. red man |
