Suppose I get arrested for, say, "brandishing" a gun to protect myself. Police arrive, take reports from all bystanders EXCEPT FOR ME, because I wish to exercise my 5th Amendment rights. (See the Youtube video "Why I never talk to the police.")

In this case, no one has been shot. His wife got the first call in to the police because I was covering him with my weapon, hoping for the police to show.

1. I have consulted with a local attorney about this very situation. How long till I get to talk to him? Is he going to drop everythign to come to my aid?

2. I have to resort to a court-appointed attorney, or to the public defender's office. How long till I get to talk to this lawyer?

Don't forget, the police are anxious to get my statement... or are they?

If you can afford counsel you won't get a PD or appointed counsel.

Unless you're in jail, it should be fairly quick response time if he wants your case.

How much are you paying him?

You don't get appointed counsel until you're arraigned around here.

I would still want to make it clear that it was a self defense situation.  In situations like those, it helps to use your own judgment about what should be said, or shouldn't be said.  If the facts are clear, I wouldn't stress out about the youtube vide and the police conspiring against you. If you entered a gray area, then yeah, you may want to completely clam up.

The effect of requesting an attorney is not to get you one asap because that's going to solve all problems.  The point is, there can be no further statements made/taken by you after that point.  It doesn't really matter how long it takes until you actually speak with a/your attorney.  You are probably going to bond out first as a matter of routine without the help of an attorney.
