| I know a post-ban AR with detachable magazine and pistol grip can't have a flash hider or bayonet lug. Now if I have a pre-ban upper and remove the FH and silver solder on a ATF approved brake that is too large to allow a bayonet to fit over it, do I still have to grind off the bayonet lug? |
| Yes. The detachable mag and pistol grip are two "evil" features (on a semi-auto rifle). Any more are a no-no. If you get rid of the grip, or get one of those funky receivers, you can add a second evil feature, but it wouldn't be worth it. Basically, a realistic post-ban means semi-auto with pistol grip, detachable magazine, fixed stock and crowned barrel/permanent muzzle break. Sorry. Wait a few years and you can get a real upper (hopefully). |
| Well I wouldn't want to have to defend myself in court over this one. The ATF lists the evil feature on their site as a bayonet mount. One could argue that the lug under the barrel is only part of the mount and wouldn't function if you couldn't fit the bayonet over the barrel. So really the bayonet mount consists of the barrel and the lug that the bayonet locks onto. I hate having to grind up a perfectly good part just because of this stupid law, but I will. |
