Saw a 'post your desktop' thread here a few days ago, but all I saw in it was osx and windows.. so, for you linux users out there: post your desktop.

I'm not going to post mine just yet because this is a clean kubuntu install and I haven't tweaked it too much, but I will later on.

I've got Wally, the desktop background changer, installed (available here:  http://www.becrux.com/ ).  I've got it set up to pull in images from flikr.  Sometimes the images are absolutely stunning.

What he said.  My desktop is covered with about 4 layers of applications so I never change it.

I prefer the KDE 3.5 desktop over all the artsy fartsy eye candy most people like.  I prefer not to tie up all that much system resources on bling.

Info on setup and apps? I plan to try a linux when i settle on a distro and figure out how to pre load everything onto a  4gb thumb drive.
I know it burns resources but i like the looks of that layout and the system monitor. Those cubes are neat too.

Just the default Linux Mint 8 "Helena" desktop, slightly modified Gnome Panel at the bottom (replaced Tomboy Notes with gedit and added a Firefox icon).

I've had a shit ton of distros on that laptop but I settled on Linux Mint because A. it was the best balance of everything I wanted and B. because it was one of the few where everything worked from the get-go. I didn't have to figure out a fix for Wireless drivers or anything like that. Hell even my HP quickplay buttons worked 100% from the beginning. Most people wouldn't give a shit about that but it's one of those things that gets under my skin if they just sit there not doing anything. I'll do screenshots of my cube in a little while.
The system monitor is Conky and the bar at the bottom is the Avant Window Navigator.
EDIT: Here's a video I made last year to show a friend of mine some of the Compiz effects. My cube setup doesn't look like this now but you get an idea of how much you can do with it. I don't really find any of it all that useful but it's fun to play with.
EDIT #2: Well that didn't work, I'll have to upload it somewhere else.

Interesting. Which version do you have? I see on the website that they have a Main, Universal, KDE and XFCE version. I use CentOS on my laptop running KDE but want to try something new.

Thanks

That one is Main/Gnome, I've hated every KDE distro I ever used to so I stick with Gnome now.

I'm in the middle of a new Ubuntu build on my 'tools' box.  But on that one I usually just have a solid color background.  Meh.

lol Helena wasn't out when I put Gloria on there.

Haven't upgraded yet, not sure if I will, I'm pretty happy with 7 and barring any major positive changes in 8 I'll probably just stick with 7.

The old video from earlier. Might look fucked up, Youtube doesn't seem to like the fact that it was shot in widescreen.
EDIT: Cubecap isn't completely work safe so I'll just play it safe and link it instead of embedding it.
