Recently i saw a used G20 at a local gun shop for 425$, it basically got me thinking, "that would make a pretty nice camping/fishing/ out door gun"
My question is what would you compare the 10mm to? .357 mag? 44 mag with the right loads? I currently use a .357 but I think a auto with more capacity/lighter weight would be a pretty good choice? How bad is 10mm ammo right now? |

.............. How bad is 10mm ammo right now? I'm not near my reloading manuals, so I won't compare 10mm, .44mag, etc. Someone else will be along. As for ammo, let's just say that 4 years ago the cost / (local) availablity of 10mm ammo introduced me to the joys of reloading. Depending on your locale, YMMV. |

To really get the most out of the 10mm, you're going to have to roll your own... Factory loads tend to be anemic (think .40S&W) and hard to find. Only ONE store in my AO has ammo, and it's Blazer aluminum case, which is a respectable load (200gr @ 1100fps)
It's better than a .357 but short of a .44 Mag. I've got a Colt Delta Elite Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

I usually carry my G20 as a woods gun in preference to my old (yet still trusted) Model 66 .357 (4").
Loaded with Doubletap brand 200gr XTP bullets (my G20 spits them out at a bit more than 1200fps) it has more snoot than the .357 does. The plastic frame of the Glock soaks up a good bit of recoil. It is an easy rig to shoot. I don't know if Glocks are new to you or not but the trigger will leave something to be desired. I carry mine in a solid holster, so a 3.5lb connector is a reasonable replacement (you can easily install this yourself). This will lighten the weight but it will still have a "kersprong" feeling to it unfortunately. The plastic stock Glock sights are turkeys. You should budget to replace them with steel sights if at all possible. I discovered that I had somehow shifted the plastic rear sight in the dovetail while carrying it in the woods. The G20 is a great choice for a "woods gun". You can get a drop-in barrel for the G20 that allows you to shoot .40 S&W through it (using the stock mags). I have one and it shoots remarkably well. The recoil of the .40S&W is very soft- sort of like shooting a .38 special load in a .357 magnum. As for power the 10mm will edge out the .357, won't really compare to a .41 Magnum and is a good bit behind the .44 Magnum. It ain't a giant killer, but if you were happy with the .357 then you will be happy with a 10mm. |

Yes, hot 10mm loads are in the .357mag range as far as ballistics go. Handloading is certainly the best option for this caliber, though, as most commercial loads are nothing more than .40SW performance in a 10mm case.
G20 is a tough gun and if the condition is nice, $425 would be a fair price. See if he'll take $420 out-the-door. |
