Dumb question I know. I have a Vizio LCD TV and it has a RGB? input in the back. If I buy a long enough cable, can I use it as a computer monitor?
I think it's called an RGB, its' the cable that plugs into the computer and the LCD monitor I have now that is crapping out. Thanks guys |

I don't see why not, however, (I haven't tried it yet with a large screen) I hear that if it's not 1080i it won't look good at all...not really sure, I hook my computer up sometimes to watch movies that are on my hard drive, but that's it.
ETA: Even with 1080i you're probably not getting as clear of a pictures as with your monitor....bump |

I currently use a 32" Samsung 720p HGTV as my computer monitor. I was able to get an high end graphics card that allows me to hook up the tv via an HDMI cable, so the sound is integrated into the tv as well so I could get rid of those pesky computer speakers. I'll take some pictures here in a few. ETA - This is the tv I'm using http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Samsung+-+32%22+Class+/+720p+/+60Hz+/+LCD+HDTV/9230708.p?id=1218063831450&skuId=9230708 Here it is on my desk with 1360 x 768 resolution. ![]() Being the scheming engineering student I am, I decided to mount it to my desk on a swiveling stand I welded up. ![]() So now I can sit on my couch or anywhere in the room and still use it if I want to watch a dvd through my computer, or I can watch regular tv. ![]() |

Ex, the bad quality you got was probably more a function of the quality of the video card and the resolution it was set at. I use a 32" for the bedroom PC, looks great and can see it fine from way back on the bed.
For the OP, you may want to consider a standard length VGA cable, but use a wireless keyboard / mouse. Works great for me. |
