In the first picture she is slicing a tomato with a knife while holding it to the cutting board, in another she is cutting a potato in midair, and in a third she is holding cheese and grating it. And 2 of those 3 she is grating cheese, which intrinsically requires you to touch the cheese. So, Captain Literal, perhaps I should have said "rarely" rather than "never." But seriously, watch an episode of her show and watch how often she reaches for a utensil to touch the food when it would obviously be more natural to use your hands. And that's all I have to say about that. |

It's much cleaner to use utensils whenever possible to limit cross contamination and just keep your hands from getting sticky or messy, rather than washing them in between handling different ingredients. You cook at home one way, professionals in the industry cook another way. |

I really do think Giada has an unnatural way of handling food. I like her though. Her dessert recipes are consistently good. Oh, and did I mention I'm a chef and know about, how did that guy say it? Oh yeah. "The industry." Here's a pic of me that Oleg Volk took. He was playing with the idea of "beating" off an attacker.
