I've asked our IT guy, he didnt know. My computer is making a beeping noise like an alarm is going off. My computer is a mut, meaning its built from parts, new parts. So its not a particular brand. Does anyone know whats going on with this thing ? I thought about putting a few bullets through it but thought I would ask you guys first. Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Legs |

Check the CMOS battery. Does the motherboard's BIOS keep track of the temp of the processor? Does the beeping start as soon as the computer boots up or after it has been on for awhile? Have you inspected fans, power supply, etc and make sure they are all working and not dust covered? What brand of MB? What processor? Overclocked? |

Thanks guys, I have a AMD 500 processor that I've been putting off replacing. I wondered about the temperature over heating problems. I have every slot filled with Video card, sound card, Ultra pc adaptor controler, usb card and an extra fan. all ram slots are filled with 512 mg.'s of ram. I run it with the cover off all the time since I have two 35 gig. hd and two cd roms. A lot of stuff in it so over heating could have been the problem. Thats why I have the cover off. Its done this before. Maybe to much dust inside ? I havent touched any thing latley but I will take out everything and try re-seating things in it. The computer does this after it has been running for a while. Then when I reboot it will start immediatly until I let it sit for a while but starts again eventually. I'm unsure on the type of motherboard, but know the processor stated above. Figure its a standard for the type of processor. I do not know if the bios keeps track of the temp. I will try everything you guys mentioned and will check back here for updated info from you all after this response. Where on the motherboard do I look for the battery? I have a G3 as well but its pretty simple to fix and obvious where the battery is placed and what type. Thanks again ! I appreciate it. I know I will have to spend money on this piece of crap again, I hope its something simple. I'd rather buy guns and ammo. Legs |

Sounds like overheating if it beeps when ya try to reboot and doesn't start up. If the CMOS battery went, every time you would cold boot you would see a BIO warning... Check your case fans and cpu fan to make sure they all work ok and if you have all that crap in a mid/small tower, you may want to keep the thing open to keep good airflow!!! ]=) |

Ditto to GoatBoy's reply: sounds like problem I had recently.. I have an AMD750, started beeping after being on for extended periods. My PC is a custom build (aka: mutt), but my builder was "johnny on the spot" for me. Turns out the AMD has various alarms, one being processor fan speed, in addition to temp, other fans, etc.. Simply replaced fan, all is well (no charge after 1 yr+ !). As GB noted, be sure you cpu is located such to provide adequate ventilation, not tight in corners under desk. On start-up, you can go into system set-up and check where alarm triggers are set for. May be just configuration. Hope this helps, Bravo5-2 |

Right now I have the cover off. I've had it this way for almost a year. I figure it has good ventalation but will follow up with the advise here and make sure. I know it real dusty right now... Im at work now so I can surf here. I gotta go to the range first and release a bit of stress so I will be much calmer and patient when I go home to fix it. Thanks again guys. I will check back here again for any updates. [beer] |

That's definitely the CPU or motherboard chipset overheating. Your motherboard manufacturer should have some monitoring utilities showing temperature and fan speed available for download. It should run fine without the case being closed.. Most likely causes are the CPU fan not spinning fast enough or at all, or the heat sink being loose. |

break out the system board manual. in the back somewhere will be the system beep codes. Count them and look them up. it will tell you what the problem is. they work like morse code. long and short beeps. If it's playing some kind of tune it is most likely a fan or overheating issue. mike |

Or, one of your fans, or fan speed sensor has died. Go into your BIOS when the system beeps (try del, F10, F12, esc keys, depending on manufacturer). Then look for "Tempurature / Monitoring" type of selection. In there you will see fan speeds, and system temperature. Something has exceeded it's limits. Your system is letting you know that something is wrong. Look at the one that is giving you an error and take approprate action, repair/replace, or turn off that setting. Good luck, this message will self destruct in 30 seconds... 1, 2, 3, ... [grenade] |

Well guys after going through the check list, this circuit junk is working fine now. I have had it running constantly since 4:30 pm yesterday. No alarms going off. This thing renders my 3d work so it runs for weeks at a time, sometimes. Thanks for all the imput on this. |

Legs, Do you have a weather bug installed on your computer? Weather bug is real time news and weather reminder. The one I have an alarm when some kind of weather advisory come out. ie.. wind advisory or flood watch. It took me a few weeks to figure out where that damn beeping was coming from. |
|
Your problem may be that you are running it with the cover off. I was always told that the computer's fan is designed to circulate air though the closed system. Also, with all of those devices in the system, how many watts is your power supply? My weather bug "chirps" when there is an advisory and the temp icon changes to a white lady bug also. |
