This is pretty cool, but I can't see dropping $280 on one. If I am reading correctly it does not come with the carry handle.

Keep your beer mil-spec with the Battle Mug

Here at GearScout, we always wondered what guys did with their
issued M4 removable carry handle once they mounted their optic sights.
We figured out at least one use for the grip as we looked around ITW
Military Products’ booth. They had one of Hero Gear’s Battle Mugs out
on display.

This thing is made from a 13.5 pound solid block of 6061 T6 billet
aluminum and CNCed out to include four M1913 rails so you can mount a
light, optic or a bayonet (watch were you put it down…). The base is
crenelated for use as a bar-room negotiation tool. The Battle Mug holds
24 ounces and retails for $279 from Hero Gear.

Hero Gear is careful to point out that the party is BYOCH (bring your own carry handle).

We've discussed it a few times here. I'll pass, I don't need a $300 beer mug.

Haha, so they didn't sell any when marketing it as a coffee mug?

Mount an ACOG to that sucker and drink Jesus beer.

Don't dare drink out of it though.... if it's that frosty, you WILL stick to it...

Same reason the aluminum bottles didn't catch on, but worse because it's so beefy...

$300 for a mug? I'd pass, but then I don't need to be tacticool.

That mug, 2 TA31F's, and 2 4xdos's and you might be cheaper off to get a DUI with real beer goggles.

There is not anywhere near $30 worth of aluminum there.  The machining time is the cost factor here, but that is based on book rate.  If he is doing it in his "spare" time & wants to do it, then there is no additional cost.  Until he makes them out in mass, then "his" time gets a price tag!

I'll take one for $30!

Are you going to anodize or what type of coating are you going to put on them so that peoples lips don't turn black when drinking from aluminum?  Zinc Chromate, Oxide???

Pathfinder

Jeeper?  Where do you work?  You can IM me if you want to keep it private.  I did alot of machining for the government for HAWK & PATRIOT systems & have afew points of contact in Tenn.

If it had LaRue or Magpul written on the side, half of ARFCOM would own one.

I figured a 4" (?) diameter, 10" long solid round would cost more than that.

Just don't buy the UTG knockoff when it comes out, they probably found a way to sneak lead into the anodizing or something...

[#38]
picked up stock today. approx 18 inches of tube (between 1/4" and 1/2" wall, around 4" diameter).
mine aren't going to be this cool looking, but for doing stuff on the cheap I'm all for it. cost me ~ $2/linear inch ($37 for 18 inches).
i figure i can make 3 out of this, sorry guys, but these are already earmarked for my dad, FIL and myself.

i'm taking a machining course at a local tech college, and we're basically given free reign of the mills, lathes, etc. i'm debating on if i want to make some picatinny rails or just go spend the $1/inch and buy them off ebay

will def take pictures so you can see the progress. don't think i can sell these, unsure about any copyright issues, etc with the original "battle mug"

won't be able to do a carry handle for my $30 budget though. crap...

[#39]
That's really a fleshlight holder isn't it?
2/1/2010 2:25:25 PM EDT
[#40]
Why I would pay $300 for a beer mug that probably costs less than $50 to make (material, labor, tooling and all)

If I had the kinda money to piss away on shit like that I'd just buy my own CNC setup and make one....

Looks sweet, but very annoying to drink out of. Right where you are going to put your lips, you have a nice rail in the way. Assuming you hold the handle when you drink.

It only has rails on three sides.

I have bought nine so far, one for me and gifts for sons and friends.
It  has three rails, no lip problems, nor have I had anybody parts stick when frozen. I throw mine on ice for 30 sec to chill and fill.
I consider these things works of art that my great grand children can have a beer out of and talk shit about me.
