Hey guys just curious, I picked up some .mil contracted MRE (the authentic kind) and was wondering what everyone's favorite menu is.
I know half the people here will say they all suck. I know they are not ideal and I am keeping them in stock for emergencies and it got me thinking....I know it doesn't compare to a steak or something but if you had to pick a favorite what would it be? I know to each his own and people like different things, but what say you.., what do you like? |

There aren't many I don't like :) Then there were guys that hated them all...
Spaghetti's really good....and comes with a really good "cobbler" Omelet sucks...but everything that comes with it is really good. Hashbrowns with bacon are freaking awesome. But the omelet, even with lots of hot sauce...still tastes like a sponge. A grey sponge. Beef Stew is good...I'm sure it's Dinty Moore stuffed in a pouch. Chicken with cavetelli, cheese tortellini...pretty much any of the pasta dishes are good. And veggie meals come with peanut butter...so I usually opted for those. I love freaking peanut butter. Newer ones might even sneak in a chocolate peanut butter. |

http://www.mreinfo.com/us/mre/mre-menus.html Last ones I ate were off the 2009 menu Favorites - Chicken Pesto w/ pasta Beef Stew I really liked the snack bread that some of them come with, much better than the crackers Watch out for the dairy stuff, I think there was a recall on some of it. here is the recall http://www.mreinfo.com/us/mre/mre-dairy-shake-recall.html |

First Strike MREs are the tits. There were only 3 menu options but mmm mmmm (for an MRE). These are very new...probably none outside the .mil yet. Yeah...really want to try those. The menus look awesome. We never got any when I was active (til dec '08) and you definitely can't find them outside yet. Think I need to talk to my S4 for our next drill...hmm.... |

last time i checked, no more jambalaya otherwise, I am a fan of the pasta ones and grilled beef patty (no. 4?)- it comes with all the fixins to makes a cheeseburger!....just be sure to have a lot of water when you eat that one- it's pretty tough to get through with all the wheat snack bread without some liquid refreshment. |

Absolute favorite? Chicken with noodles or Chicken tetrazzini
Likes: Beef stew Chili mac Spaghetti Beef patty/burger Chicken with salsa Sloppy joe Bean and rice burrito Beef enchilada Pot roast Chicken and dumplings Meatloaf Chicken fajitas Dislikes: Everything else from the pre-2007 menu. |

everyone's favorite menu Country Captain Chicken RIP I second that. I do not know if they still use them or not but our BN mess would have these big tins they would heat up that contained the main meals from the MREs that would feed about 20 people. During OIF 1 after the invasion, we started getting these instead of the usual regular MREs. There was some sort of mistake and instead of our BN getting a variety of the main dishes, we go a month's supply of nothing but Country Captain Chicken. If you think that crap is bad for just one meal, try eating it straight for a month!!! |

Amazing coincidence that this thread would appear today.
Last night I had a Beef Stew dated 3198. The only reason I opened the case was to see if the stuff was still OK My review is as follows: When I opened it I could immediately smell the Tabasco sauce. The tiny bottle was empty but it appeared to be absorbed by the Napkin/toilet paper. I have to start by saying that everything was palatable I set up the stew pouch with the heater and moved on to the rest of the meal. The Vegetable crackers were crisp altho I did not care much for the flavor. The jalapeño cheese spread really did make the crackers better. Barely. I made up the Vanilla shake by following the instruction. One minute was NOT enough time to shake the bag. I still mixed it up with the spoon to even out the clumps. The shake was most excellent. Recall? DILLIGAF? The heater had sat for about 10 min and the Beef Stew was quite warm. The package said to kneed the stew before opening. Well, I may have over done the kneading. When I opened the pouch it looked like corned beef hash. Not much eye appeal. Tasted like Dinty Moore. OK-ish. Dessert was two cookies that looked like they had mini M&M's in them. Nice and crunchy. Not stale at all. Condiment pack had a Tasters choice coffee, non dairy creamer and sugar envelope. Yea, it tasted like instant coffee. Like I said, the Tabasco was empty but it smelled OK. There were matches that still worked. Lastly there was a pack of two Chicklett type gum. Spearmint. Over all this could have been packed last week even though it was packed on July 17, 2003. I bought it on EBay in early 2004 and it stayed in my basement until I opened it yesterday. So, to answer your question, the Beef Stew from 2003 is good. YMMV |

I got the real ones, they are legal for sale because they had never been purchased or sent to the .Mil, they are the same things just bought by a US contract firm and then they were resold back to the company which sent them out for re-sale.
it was from a .mil surplus store that was suggested here - best deal I've found 89 for two cases - like I said I'm keeping them around for emergencies -Keep a couple in my truck for Blizzards -Keep a couple in my pack when I go hiking -Keep some in a SRK (Survival and Responce Kit) for emergencies - Similar to a BOK or BOB but has more "Rescue" style equipment in case family/friends/strangers need help and the only help they have is me -Keep some in case of Tornado's and that's all I can eat for a while -Zombie Attacks! you never know when you may need a quick and easy long lasting food source |

There is a company that sells components to the FSR but not all of them and, anyway, I'm interested in the .mil package setup |

Quoted: Quoted: Dehydrated pork patty and a gorilla cookie. ![]() Man, that brings back memories. I did like the dehydrated fruit in the old MRE"s, especiallythe strawberries. Pork Patty and cherry or maple nut cake. I miss them. ETA - a brief story from http://www.mreinfo.com/reviews/mre/1982-pork-patty.html I remember eating a pork patty circa '87 or '88. Has it really been that long? Damn. |

I remember munchin' on the pork patty dry. mmmmmmmmm. 1984 was my introduction to the MRE. I've still got indigestion. |
