So me and a group of 20+ people are playing paintball tomorrow, most of the people coming have played numerous times.
Since im a noob im wondering if you guys have any tips or tricks. What are teh general rules? |
|
tip #1, dont get shot
tip #2, accuracy through volume (spray and pray) tip #3, nut, neck, and wrist shots hurt. tip #4, long shots can be taken by bolt thumping ( applying pressure to the bolt to open the gas valve more), just dont get caught doing it, and dont do it at close range. |
|

Buy a cup. |
| I only played paintball once 14 years ago,but I learned what I am going to tell you the hard way.Wear a cup, rolled up sock, something to protect your cock and balls!I got hit right on the head of my dick, damn that shit hurt like a motherfucking son of a damn bitch! |
|
It took me awhile to learn how to wait until they are close enough to where you can get an accurate shot..When ever I used to play, all my team mates would just unload whenever they caught a glimpse of someone far off, wouldn't hit shit and then would give away every ones position, not hitting shit. |

Quoted: You'll get tagged a lot. Carry a grudge. Try and get PAINball going for the last round of the day, and get your revenge. This is where you're not out no matter how many hits you take, until you cry uncle and walk off the field. Or run out of paint. I ran someone out simply by dry firing into his neck one time after I was out of balls. I found out later that you were supposed to tap out if you ran out... ![]() |

Do you know what kind of ball you are playing? woodsball or speedball?

Haha. I remember the first time I played. I was out and just trying to get off the field without getting tagged. I was coming down a hill approaching an outcrop when the enemy opened up on me, so I took cover and, wouldn't you know it, somebody had spilled a dropped a ball there! Again, first time, I didn't know picking them up off the ground was a big no-no, so in it went and I popped up and just started shooting –– one round followed by blanks. The guy took off running, I yelled "yeah, you better run!" and then GTFO. Next round I took one right in the adam's apple. Ooooo that felt great. |

Wear loose clothes. Dont wear thick clothes per say, because you're just gona roast (Unless you know it's going to be cold) but loose, baggy clothes are the way to go. If you wear a Large shirt, wear a XXL shirt, etc. Wrap a bandana around your neck, and wear kneepads.
Play agressive, the game isnt about sitting on your rear in the back, it's ok to get shot. Communicate with your teammates Forget everything you know about practical shooting, paintball and real shooting have very little in common. Accuracy through volume is key. Don't be an idiot. Follow all the safety rules, don't act like youre someone you aren't, etc. Read some of the articles in this thread, as it's basicly the ARF of paintball: http://www.pbnation.com/showthread.php?t=2403309 |

Don't fire too soon. Paintball guns are very short range compared to a real gun, because of poor accuracy in stock configuration, the fact that balls won't break reliably beyond a certain range, and because at a certain distance they can dodge behind cover before your balls get there. You have to get close to make kills. Flanking is effective.
Have some balls and don't let yourself get suppressed too easily. Make sure you have room to move in the cover you pick and a place to retreat to if you get flanked. For long shots, the ballistic arcs of paintballs are very noticeable and you'll have to aim high more than you'd expect. If the weather is too cold, firing too much will freeze the gun if its running CO2. CO2 guns, which are the most common, don't perform too well in cold weather. |
|
Quoted: Indoor or woodsball? Good point. Woodsball is a far cry from indoor speedball. In woodsball, play it anyway you want. In speedball, you have to be fast and willing to really go for it. Decide strategy with the team beforehand. Some have to stay back at all costs, some move up at all costs! |

I found 2 balls laying on the ground and so I loaded them up.I was hiding in some old half track shell thing, and two dudes came poking around for the flag. I jumped out and took two shots, one to the skinny dude on the left. The ball broke on his chest. The second shot came off before the fat dude on the right got his gun up. The ball sailed right into his gut, but I saw it bounce out without a break. Knowing I was empty, I turned and ran, got tangled in some brush and took 2 to the back and neck... pure glory. Freaking fat! ![]() At least he showed me a welt later. That was fun. |

Funny, I just played for the first time last night. Tactics are completely out the door. Stay low, sneak a peak after you've moved, and then keep moving. I found the two biggest obstacles for me were vision and accuracy. Vision was poor because the crappy rental mask was scratched as hell, and accuracy was because of the design of the marker. The hopper for the paint balls is directly over the bore axis. You can't really look down the barrel to sight in a target because the hopper is in the way. Oh –– and no sights on the barrel at all. It's literally spray and pray.
I had fun but I can definitely see why anyone who thinks its a good compliment to training with your rifle is simply smoking dope. |

Ended up getting paint all over my face, and lenses That reminds me. BRING MICROFIBER WIPES! You will have to clean your mask (inside and out) a few times, and it is frustrating when you can't see well. Oh, and paint tastes nasty. Try to keep the wide grin off your face as you take one in the kisser... |

The one time i played paintball, i caught a round right under my mask. Ended up getting paint all over my face, and lenses I used to play a lot of speedball and in tournaments. One time before a weekend tourny we went out to the field we were playing at and had a practice the day before. Some how I managed to catch a ball in the lower neck. Their were pieces of shell stuck in my skin. It was a bloody, greasy mess. I still have the scar from it about 5 years later.

Most players don't actually have a way of aiming beyond sighting down the barrel and walking their shots onto the target like tracers. Tippmann guns (and probably a few other brands) have offset hoppers and sight rails, but very few people ever use them. A cheap Chinese 30mm-40mm red dot which allows you to actually aim and an adjustable barrel kit like the Freak or J&J Edge to let you hit what you aim at will give you a huge advantage over most players. With mainly those two accessories on an old Tippmann 98 I bought circa Y2K, I manage to get multiple kills per round while firing about 60 shots or less. I also manage to make a lot of shots on limbs and masks poking out from behind cover. People call me a "sniper" but there's no such thing in paintball. Everyone has the same muzzle velocity, but you can increase your effective range if you do something to increase your accuracy. A good mask with an anti-fog lens in the $70-$100 range is totally worth it too. Nothing ruins games like fog. |

Oh. The game is a lot more fun if you get yourself a decent barrel. Hard to do with a rental gun though. Being able to actually make a consistent hit at spray and pray range makes the difference between the bad guy diving for cover or swearing it off. my friends shocker sport with a 18" boomstick was crazy accurate with some good range. |

You are right about it being a compliment to real firearms training, however, the aiming thing has been addressed (at least with my paintball gun). Spyder MR1 with my Aimpoint Clone Sitting on top should put some bitches down at the end of this month for my bachelor party. If you are interested I'll take a pic for ya. |

Thanks for all the replies.
I am borrowing a friends gun which is a "high end" one. Im not expcting to get "powned" too badly because 60% of the kids going have never played. It going to be fun because we are doing this to celebrate being done with midterms for our senior year, and i dont know how we managed this but its going to basically be all "nerds" on the other team. I am not underestimating them but most didnt think that getting hit would hurt. We get a private field, it is at skirmish in PA. LINK Its going to be 35-40 degrees. How much clothing do you suggest i wear? |

Quoted: Yeah, I ended up getting myself a Lapco Bigshot a while back for my T98. It's a 14" but plenty accurate on CO2 without an expansion chamber.Quoted: Oh. I also added a cheap ass tasco bb gun scope for those occasions when I need aim. Holds zero, but the reticle spins some. Using an X to aim is strange, but you get used to it. I don't want to spend more than $15 on a scope that catches a paintball at least once an outing! |

WEAR CAMOUFLAGE! The more the better. Don't be afraid to go all out in woodsball. Also, if you are borrowing, rather than renting, you have an equipment advantage. Enjoy! |

Move and advance as quick as you can. Camping does not work well in pb. Shoot at them nonstop, and while your shooting, run up and bunker thier asses! http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c72/Protostar1/bunkered.gif No field I've played at allows bunkering anymore. If you manage to get that close, you have to "surrender" them. |

Expect to get shot a lot, and in places you wouldn't expect. My first encounter with a paintball was when one ricocheted off my unprotected forehead, followed shortly by many others. Neck shots hurt, a lot.
Wear a cup, or at least stuff a rag or towel down there. Nut shots are no fun and can actually do serious damage if done at close range. I was playing in a big game one time walking on a trail to get back to the action but still a long ways off, no one around me but out of nowhere a ball flies through the air and hits me square in the jewels. That moment made up for a whole day of chafing
Wear long sleeves and gloves - If you are going to play in the woods your hands and arms are going to get torn up if you don't protect them. You also will probably get shot in the hand/knuckes a lot, so the armored fingerless gloves made for paintball are nice to have as well. Don't shoot unless you are fairly certain of getting hits, since it will give away your position and it's very possible there are enemies hiding nearby that you didn't know about. |
