| Thats why we have gun-totin' arfcomers here. In all reality I seriously doubt that anyone could stage a large enough attack (besides multiple dirty bombs) that coudln't be handled what we still have here...thats a good idea though. My wife is a teacher. She's from the mtns of Va and her dad is ahuge gun loving redneck. Over the past 3 years of her teaching she is slowing becoming one of "them"(...I'll end that right quick) and I might have a heart atack if she said something like that! good for you and good on her! |

Guess. Might be a good idea to read up on some of this stuff before you get all worked up about our "defenseless" situation. I never said anything about being "defenseless", and I'm not "all worked up". Just bragging about my GF thinking a bit for herself. Give me a break Rambo. |

[chris rock]You don't get credit fo' shit you 'posed to do.[/chris rock] I'm glad your girlfriend thinks for herself. To answer my earlier question, far less that 1% (about 10,000) of our servicepeople are to be deployed to Haiti. The percentage of doctors, money, and available food is far, far, far less than that. Again, cool for your girlfriend that she thinks for herself and all. ETA: Where are the gf/sammich pics? |

Quoted: She said it may not be the greatest idea to send so many troops, food, water, doctors, money, our giant hospital ship, and other stuff to Haiti. I said why but I was hoping she would say what I wanted her to say and not something else. She said what if we get attacked by a terrorist? That was what I was hoping she would say and not something else like they don't deserve it. So what happens if we do get attacked. Will we be able to help ourselves? Or is everything we need either in or on its way to Haiti? We went and bought water, food, and other stuff about an hour after that and filled out vehicles up with gas. Scary thing to think. what does she think 10 divisions of Taliban are going to roll through soonerville next week? |

What fraction of the nation's armed forces do you believe are deployed to Haiti? What percentage of doctors? Food? Medicine? Please answer. I believe we have 11 carrier groups, 5 on each side, 1 at japan the 5 in the pacific would take quite a while to pull up to Boston and begin giving medical aid if Boston was hit with a, say, dirtybomb. So moving 1 carrier and it's group to Haiti means that our naval force is cut by 20% on the eastern seaboard. While the number of doctors and food and medical supplies that are sent are a tiny faction of 1% of our total, it is a sizable percentage of our pre-packaged, ready to roll at a moment's notice stuff. However, we are the USA, we think about others. It is one of the things that make us great. Talking to some of the Mexican co-workers I have, it just amazes me how much of a 'put your head down and say nothing' attidude they have...and then they are suprised when tragedy hits their family and no one will step forward to be a witenss. Yea, the rest of the world wouldn't return the favor, but that is because they are punks. It doesn't mean we should punk out too. It's not the medical aid to Haiti that is going to bankrupt this country, it's all the other crap we got going on. |

A carrier group would have minimal impact on your dirty bomb in Boston scenario. |

I wasn't trying to say she is right and terrorists are on their way. But I was proud of her for thinking a little bit about SHTF type. Yeah it might be far fetched but so are a lot of SHTF scenarios. Ya I like her and will probably keep her. Sorry I really didn't want this to turn into another Haiti hating thread. No sammich but here she is with her Christmas present from me. http://i416.photobucket.com/albums/pp247/wormydog1724/07cb715d.jpg and an OSU football game. I think I was unhappy and drunk. http://i416.photobucket.com/albums/pp247/wormydog1724/94cf504e.jpg Which is why she's a potential keeper. |

Pretty well considering she's damn near blind at far away stuff. She was hitting an 8 inch plate at 50 yards on a cold windy day. Would have shot better but the front sight was effed up and fell off half way through the 3rd mag. Put a red dot on it and she's a natural prairie dog killer. |

ETA: I will give her credit for at least considering the possibilities, even if unfounded IMHO. |

Might work on her to get her eyes evaluated, though. You'd be suprised at how many folks go through a portion of thier lives with bad eyes and never knew it. |

Maybe just a tinfoil bow-tie for me and a tinfoil flower bouquet or something for her. |

But hey at least she is thinking about more than just Jersey Shore and Gilmore Girls. |

Let me be the first to say you got a hot GF, Wormydog! And I give her props for thinking critically (beyond American Idol LOL) about the situation at hand, even if her reasoning isn't too sound. It shows she's paying attention to current events (in something other than pop culture) which is something a lot of folks your age (or mine) couldn't care less about––even though we'll be stuck with the consequences down the road. (Holy run-on sentence LOL.) Hopefully you used that opportunity to open a dialogue between you two about other important issues.
FWIW, my wife (who stays up on current events/politics from all my ranting), surprised me the other night by saying, "You know, it's great that we're sending all that aid to Haiti, but where are we pulling all that aid money from?! I guess he's just going to print 100 million more fucking dollars?" I smiled. |

I know her mindset is still a little green, she gets it from her damn commando blow hard rambo shtf uncle. She's learning. My favorite is when she is sitting in my lap and I am looking at pic threads on my iphone on arfcom and a pink rifle comes up. She says she wants one.Thats why I bought her the Remington 597 with pink camo stock. That'll do until I am out of college and hopefully get a job and some money saved up. She is going to get a pink AR from me, one of these days. |

Much more infrastructure. We also have LHAs, LPDs and LSDs all suited for delivering aid. |

And now you do not want it to turn into another Haiti hating thread... of course that is part of what the thread is about but you just figured out how stupid and callous you sound. I may be an asshole... So which are you the pot or kettle? |
