I made this choice a few years ago, and it definitely played a role in the demise of my marriage.

Way too many variables left out.

Salary? Nature of the business?

That said, same on all counts except the amount of respect given I would suck it up and earn the respect from the first place while I put up the amount of money each month that I would have spent on driving the 60mi and if the respect was never given I would take the money I saved and move to a better job when I padded my resume.

Is that 60 miles one way? That's a lot of driving just for a little respect (and more hassle). Assuming the pay is comparable, no way I'd do that much driving to and from work every day.

what is the difference in pay, if any?

There is no difference in pay, I wouldn't drive the extra 60 miles a day.

Did you say helicopter?!?

JOB 2!!!!

Then again, define several, and are you being taught to fly it? I love helis, but if working closer to home meant I saved the gas money and could work a second job to put even more in savings, I'd do close to home. That way I could afford training to become the pilot of said heli myself someday instead of just being a helpless passenger.

passenger only in the heli
