I've had it with Realplayer. At one point, it was good. Then it seems like every couple of months they came out with a new update. I finally got to 7.0 Now when I went to some site to play an interview, my computer froze up while Realplayer Basic contacted Realplayer. I mean for at least a minute, more like two. Then I finally got this message that to play that item, I'd have to update to Realplayer One or Realplayer Plus, or some crap. Then I remembered - been there before. It costs $21 or something. Screw that! I ain't paying anything to listen to some company's puff piece interview. And I'm really pissed that you never know that this is going to happen, or not. When it does, it doesn't respond to clicking on the "cancel" button. Screw Realplayer. And the companies that use it. I have enough crap on my computer already, no, wait, actually too much. That's why you don't see me doing IM's or in the chat room - all the extra junk you have to download to make it work! I'm mad as Hell!!!!! And I'm not going to take it any more!!!! |

Amen, prk. Amen! I will be the first to admit that when it comes to computers, I am without a doubt the most ignorant and unwilling to learn new concepts. Buying new hard/software? Even less interested. As of late I have seriously been considering canceling my ISP and doing without service for awhile. My idiot box came with a winmodem already installed and it's supposed to be a 56k doohickey. I have NEVER had a connection speed faster than 28.8. I called my ISP and asked if there was a problem with my connection and when I told them the type of modem I have, they said that my winmodem does not properly support their hardware configuration and that if I want faster service I have to buy a US Robotics or similar modem. WTF? Motorcycles, cars and guns I know. Computers? Nope. Lately my system has slowed dramatically and on occassion actually locks up. Coincidentally, I've got a little icon on the bottom of my screen which urges me to load the new real player and guarantees me a 300% speed increase. Double WTF?!? Something aint right here. |

Haven't had realplayer installed for three years. The program is too aggressive. It sets itself up to play every media file on your machine. Even if you change file associations it resets them. That, on top of the snoopy reporting it does (spyware) convinced me to do without. |

I would unintall it, but my "remove programs" only has 4 items and Realplayer isn't one of them. Rather than just deleting its folders, which I think risks messing up the registry or something, I will just wait and reformat & reinstall Windows and the stuff I really want. Hey, tell me more about the spyware. I clean out my regular and temp internet files files and cookies each day, also remove the IE5.0 Content folder & subfolders each day, then do cleanup. Supposedly, the IE content folderas are best removed after starting in DOS mode, but, well, I'm not sure it's worth the trouble. Is there something about Realplayer's spyware that my approach will not cover? Got any tips? Thanks, guys. |

I have Realplayer, windows media player, and this other "windowsmedia.com" thing that pops up every time I wnt to play a second video from the same source I just played a Real Player video from. How do you manage the different players? Set your preferences? What players are preferred? |
