Damn, I like that even better than the one I have, where'd you get it? it's the eagle universal/SKD version. people on here give it high marks and the price is pretty good. here: http://www.skdtac.com/Eagle_Chest_Rig_Universal_SKD_p/eag.567.htm |

Interesting set up. I need something that will hold AR mags and M14 mags, and this might be the right gear. Is it fairly modular? on mine the four pouches on the front aren't removable and i don't think m14 mags fit in them this one could be what your looking for, it's the same as mine but it's an all molle version: http://www.skdtac.com/Eagle_Chest_Rig_SKD_All_Molle_Version_p/eag.569.htm |

Quoted: 4 bottles of beer, TV remote, TV guide, mobile phone, cold slice of pizza and some jerky. Perfect for the armchair warrior I'm more of a high speed, low drag armchair commando, the beer goes in the camelback and by having Directv I don't need no stinkin tv guide... however I do like that setup, right now I have a acu camo messenger bag to carry my loadout with 5 AK mags, 3 glock mags on the side, flashlight, leatherman, paracord, electical tape, small first aid kit and earplugs. I really do need some type of chest rig/tac vest type setup. |

My rigs are set up for putting holes in people and patching holes in me / people I care about. Hand sanitizer, water purification, food, etc. go in a BOB and don't belong in a chest rig IMHO...
I've been running a OSOE Micro Rig (4 mags, IFAK / BOK pouch). Milspec Monkey Review Here Handgun is IWB.

Wife got me this for Christmas this year along with an ACS and a BAD. I keep it loaded with 6 Pmags(maybe more when the new 40rders come out), a Surefire SC1 battery/lamp case(loaded with 6 CR123s and soon a spare P60 or P61 bulb), 3 1911 Wilson 47D mags, Surefire G2 or 6P depends on the day, Tops Knives Mohawk Hunter, 100 feet of 550 cord.
The rifle itself also carries 6 CR123s, numerous pairs of ear plugs, and a generous small parts kit(extractor, gas rings, extractor spring, insert, o-ring, firing pin, firing pin retaining pin, and cam pin) I also plan on adding a BCM BCG to the rifle and taking the current BCG out of the rifle and storing it in the chest rig. |

I use this one now, kydex lined mag pouches...also added dual pistol mag carrier and a small utility pouch http://www.skdtac.com/Eagle_M4_Chest_Rig_LE_3_Mag_p/eag.563.htm Like it due to the 1 mag, 1 pouch - didn't like loose mags in each pouch after I removed one from the carrier. SKD has some nice stuff! |

Sometimes I put a flashlight and folding knife in the last two pistol mag pouches. I've got a bag with gauze pads and surgical pads for stopping bleeding (in case I get shot.. again it's not much but it might slow it down a little and I can't afford a real trauma kit yet anyways) and a map of my town in there. I keep one of those 99-cent emergency ponchos in it as well. I'll probably go through and take out the poncho and med stuff and make a real kit for that to put on one of the MOLLE sections.

i just got my chest rig and will probably never need it except for a carbine course but was wondering what things you guys keep in it permanently so far i came up with some extra strength tylenol, hand sanitizer, ear plugs, a spare battery for my reddot, a spare folding knife, and a bunch of duct tape strips post a pic of your setup if you want http://i47.tinypic.com/2w2fwpt.jpg I've got the Eagle/SKD Universal rig too(multicam). Man, it is one great setup. I'll post a pic of what I am running in it when I get home. I am still working on filling it, but here's what I have off the top of my head: 3 PMAGs 2 G21 mags 50 ft or so of paracord Gerber Multi-Plier I have an SOG Sealpup on my right side |
| i got a web belt with a molle 3 mag pouch, thats what i usually use. i have a mossy oak buttpack type thing with even more mags and cleaning gear and water and beef jerky also, but dont use it as much less its a longer hike. im not a fan of chest rigs, especially if you got armor also, makes prone a pain. |

Ready to go with an AR and medical blow-out kit at any time. http://www.dlaab.com/photo/chestrig.jpg You cross-draw your pistol and mags? If it works for you, cool. Just seems odd to me to do it that way on a chest rig |

DangerJ mentioned... You cross-draw your pistol and mags? If it works for you, cool. Just seems odd to me to do it that way on a chest rig
Yes, i have tried a number of configurations, and this is the best for me. With a AR slung, this works out much better. The pistol mags are easy to draw, and the pistol is a cross draw that is easier for me to get to than a strong side draw, particularly while the AR is slung. Also, the Glock is the secondary and the main reason it is on the chest rig is so I would have a pistol in a grab and go situation no matter what. I generally keep my CCW at hand as well. I wouldn't normally do transition drills wot this set-up, I would put a holster on my strong side hip for that. |

hand sanitizer? really? i dont carry that in mine, but a civilian application for a chest rig is handling a disaster. for example, last year we had a tornado warning in my area. i tossed on my chest rig, turned on my HT and went about securing things i needed like my keys, wallet, cell phone. taking it outside to secured any potential projectiles in the yard etc. having my chest rig on allowed me to monitor NOAA radio and WX on my HT while getting this done, minimizing my chance of getting caught outside unprotected. it might not be the perfect solution, but it got the job done well enough i'll use it in that application again. getting back to your post, its likely that a civilian might have different uses for military gear. there is no right or wrong, just what works for you. i run a TT 2 piece MAV more for disaster recovery, i prefer a war belt for HD. 4 AR mags 2 pistol mags ITK and a utility pouch to hold tools i'd need in a disaster. |
