So, which is your favorite? I got started in Anime with Gundam Wing, but good lord, all the Gundam series get extremely preachy!!! (War is bad, global disarment is the only way to peace and one world governments, etc...) I'm just finishing up Code Geass, and I think for the most part it has a good balance of alternate history, fun, mecha, politics, and preachyness. Gundam SEED and its sequels have better mecha and tech IMHO, but its just too preachy! (And its still not as good as Gundam Wing, IMHO.) I haven't seen 00 yet, but that'll be next after I finish the last episodes of Code Geass tonight.

Thoughts anyone?

Like both. And I am pretty sure from what I remember most Gundam series being against one world government. At least the ones from Gundam wing on, can't really say I have watched the earlier ones.

See my avatar.

Gundam 08th MS Team is by far the greatest Gundam series ever made (with
0080 a close second.) If you disagree with me, you are wrong. Of course
everyone got their start on Wing. It was the first Gundam series ever
to be broadcast in America... Oh Toonami, those were the days... but
seriously, looking back on it now, what a load of pacifist garbage. You
owe it to yourself to watch a real Gundam series. Universal Century is
the ONLY REAL Gundam timeline.
Everything after has just been a joke *cough* G Gundam *cough* or mashed
up rehash of previous stories from UC.

08th Team is a 12 episode OVA, meaning it has much higher animation and
production quality than the numerous made for tv Gundam series. It is
also by far the MOST REALISTIC
depiction of giant robot combat a Gundam show could ever be. For one,
the story follows real soldiers on the front line (not just prepubescent
teenage fruitcakes like other series) and deals with the many issues
they face ie. horrors of war, missing of family, commitment to duty,
etc.

It also relies heavily on TACTICS. There is no 'I always win' button on
these mobile suits and the 08th team can't rely on beam spamming the
shit out of everything they face. There is accurate depiction of
weapons, realistic damage and much much cool shit you just have to see
for yourself.

And finally, the ultimate reason to watch this series: NORRIS PACKARD.
The ultimate most baddest-assed mother effing f**ker to ever pilot a
mobile suit. The final battle between his Gouf Custom and the 8th Team
is just freaking unbelievably epic. Oh my God I just creamed my pants
thinking about it.

Last thoughts - you really really need to see this show. You can pick up
the entire series plus the movie for less than $20 now. They also just
released a Remastered version with better audio and visual quality. I
will also say this series is one of the few watchable in both Sub AND
Dub (The english voice actors did and excellent job on this series,
unlike most.)

For the love of God man just watch this show.

The most amazing Gundam battle in history. Behold...

8th Team Move Out!

CG was a bit to magic meets tech for me in the style it was drawn in.  The artistic style just isn't my flavor.  The Yugi-Oh style.  That's it.

And thanks for the heads up on 08th MS Team; sounds like it would be a better investment than 00 from what I've seen of it.

Hellsing Ultimate goes without saying... By far, its my favorite series, though I am not as versed in Anime as I would like to be... Witch Hunter Robin is also up there on my list.

Oh, Toonami. RIP

There's nothing good at CN anymore. Back before we got cable, I would relish the days we visited our aunts or grandparents house and catch Gundam Wing, Outlaw Star, Batman: TAS, New Adventures of JQ, etc (and that doesn't even counsider the classics like Looney Toons, Tom & Jerry, The Jetsons, Flinstones, etc...) And back before Adult Swim, there was Toonami: Midnight Run. Oh, childhood; why did it have to end!

To think that was an 11 year run. It feels like both an eternity and only a moment...

Don't even get me started on Toonami. I will never forgive Cartoon Network, oh I mean 'CN', for what they did to it. I'm not talking about it's cancellation, they should have done that a long time ago. Toonami was officially dead to me when I started seeing Yu-gi-oh, Naruto and Pokemon!? Come on, what the hell... Toonami was about introducing new animes that had never been seen by American audience before - Not regurgitating the same westernized cartoon garbage that is all you see now. What happened to the awesome shows like Gundam, Tenchi, Outlaw Star... hell, I'll even take back the DBZ marathons. I don't know maybe it's just the nostalgia speaking, (There was nothing like playing GoldenEye with friends all night just to stay up late enough for Midnight Run.

) I could rant for hours but that's not what's really pissing me off right now...
No, I decided to check out an episode of Code Geass and it seems like a pretty cool show. I'm still not used to this new style of animation and everything but whatever.. robots are cool but not much my style. I don't care much for the whole 'Geass' demon possession or whatever you want to call it.. but again others do. I might enjoy it more if I start from the first episode and had a better understanding of it all but I really don't have the time to get that into it. Anyways, after that I decided to check out an episode of Gundam Seed to see what the new shows are like...
WHAT. THE. FUCK.
It was sorta like Geass but 1000x gayer. I can't believe this is the shit kids now days are growing up with.

Everything I saw was either a blatant rip off from previous series or something just so retarded it made my eyes bleed. I guess we're back to sissy preteens bitching about everything in repetitive, excuse me "epic", space battles against a mysterious masked villain - Wow really fucking original there. Here, let me summarize every episode along with the battle tactics they use:
1. Charge enemy head on while mashing your Gundam's "I win." button to beam slice everyone in your way while shooting lasers out of every orifice to destroy the rest.

2. Say something retarded about the existence of humanity or how much you regret being forced into doing what you are to win.

3. ???

4. Do the same thing next time, you got 49 episodes left to go.
I mean seriously, how many times do I have to see the same fight animation used in the last episode? How many damn times do we need a face close up every time someone gasps, sighs or blinks?  You see the same persons helmet for like half the episode. Maybe that's because they can't show what's happening outside the cockpit.. Why? Because who even knows what the hell is going on?!!
The combat is so random and unpredictable.. in a very bad way. "You think you got me now? Haha my Gundam shoots lasers out it's ass!" What the fuck! It doesn't make sense, it's not flowing, there's no direction. Stuff just happens and your just sitting there waiting for it to end. There's no involvement. Maybe that's why I love the older series so much. You still don't know whats going to happen in a fight but you're still there following it every step of the way. I can tell you everything that happened in the Gouf fight from 8th Team.. can you do the same for Seed? - Other than "They flew around in space shooting laser and shit." I'll prove my point later with Exibit A.
Again, I haven't wasted much of my time watching these new shows, but I can allready guess there's not much of a story or any meaningful character development. From what I saw in Seed, hundreds of people die every episode and I could care less... compare that to a classic like 0080 where one person dies and it means everything - now that is the mark of excellent story telling, that which these new shows seem to be lacking.
Perhaps I'm just too nostalgic of the past series, or maybe Gundam Seed, Destiny, 00 whatever really do suck that much. Point is most people now only see the Americanized versions like this and Wing. Nobody really knows about the classics any more and I guess that's what really bothers me.

If this is what Gundam has become than I guess I am no longer a "Gundam" fan.. just 8th Team, War in the Pocket and Mobile Suit fanatic.
/end rant
//EXIBIT A:
Here are some clips from different series, all Gundam. The first is SEED, you'll notice about every other seen is a closeup of someone gasping, bitching about war and 'sacrifice' or wearing a penis on their head. Laser beams and explosions everywhere but none really doing anything other than what looks like a giant space rave party.
The second clip is from 8th Team, again a space battle but you can actually tell what's happening while not knowing what will happen next. Notice how Shiro actually uses some godamn skill to fucking take out a Zaku in a mother effing Ball for fucks sake. Oh and he doesn't spend the whole time bitching about it either. Wow!
Third is 0080 War in the Pocket, this battle doesn't reacquire flashy lights, uber pilots or mechs dancing around all over the place. It's just several well written sequences tied together to make an unforgettable story. Again notice how you can develop a plot that doesn't revolve around nothing but the main characters bitching and moaning the entire fight. Finally observe how even 1980's quality animation makes for a better battle than all the fucking lasers and explosions shit could ever be.
FUCK YOU GUNDAM SEED. FUCK YOU.

Ah yes, back in the day... back when Moltar ran Toonami, when SGC2C was still on, and when the SciFi channel would run good anime movies like A-Ko and GX999.

About the only thing CN has good these days is Robot Chicken.

FMP _is_ a mecha series. Just not as mecha-centered as Macross or Gundam. Foumoffu does have limited mecha involvement, as it is the more lighthearted and comedic installment of the series.

As far as the OP, I kind of prefer CG over the Gundam stuff.  But, I think a lot of that has to do with there are so many Gundam series, I never got into them, so they're all disjointed and such.  I do like the AirMaster though, kick ass mech!

So Ultimate appears to be a new show?  I thought it was just a 'remix' type of reissue of the first Hellsing: cleaned up image, surround sound, etc.  Loved the first one, so guess I need to get this one.

It basically follows the Manga story, rather than the TV series. The animation is quite better, too. I personally don't like the comedic parts, but others might.
Only the first four have been released in the US due to Geneon being sold/bought out. I think Funimation has the distribution rights for the US.

Actually Geneon ceased to exist. They were going to be taken over ADV so in preporation of that, Geneon laid everyone off. The because of ADV asshatery the deal died on the vine. With the deal failing and Geneon having no staff, everything just stopped for a while. Luckly Funimation has picked up quite a few of the Geneon.

ADV is going down the drain theirselves. I heard they lost their recording studio along with the rights to Eva. Talk about a kick to the nuts
