Well, I must say I haven't spent much time in the snow in my Altamas. Plenty of sand though.

I went to their site and a lot of models are sold out with no back order option, I got the impression they are being discontinued.

If they show up made in the PRC they are going back, fast. I emailed Danner with the model and that question. This shit pisses me off if true, New Balance touts made in the USA but I went to their store and paid all the money, I got home I and noticed they are made in China, WTF! If you go to the web site they list all two models made here, nice advertising asshats.

I concur.  I buy many things that are made in china but my boots will never ever be one of them.

You should have asked 1st...

Chippewa boots beat any boot I have ever had, and I had had shit loads, I have been in the trades for 15yrs.

For the price, you cannot even touch Chipps.

No, only the molded sole boots are made off shore. The stitch through sole boots such as the Santiams, Acadias, Marine Corp's desert boot, etc are made in Portland, OR. Models made in the USA

The stitch-down sole models are made in the USA.  The molded, athletic shoe sole models are made in China.

Knew people in WVU's Forestry program that swore by them.  Never had a pair, though.  I like the Matterhorns.

Bought mine through LA Police Gear. Cheapest price I found and it included Free 5.11 socks.

ETA- I see my Recons are no longer made in the USA
Atleast I got a pre-ban pair.  I like having the little flag tab on them.  Looks like my next pair I will have to switch back to the Acadia.  I just preferred the all leather as opposed to the nylon.

I had a pair of Danner's. Loved em. Eventually, wore the sole out. Was going to get another pair, but a buddy talked me into trying Bates. This is the pair that I got:

http:///www.galls.com/style.html?assort=general_catalog&style=SP755

The first pair lasted about two or three years. They still look good, but it started to split near the ankle. So, I replaced it with another pair. Best pair of boots I have ever had. More comfortable than the Danners that I had. When these wear out, I will get another pair.

I won't buy a pair of boots unless I'm actually able to try them on first.

You seriously did NOT say Bates were a superior boot to Danner? My last pair of Danners I had for over 5 years. The sole was about racing slicks. The lether is STILL in great shape. If I got them resoled, they would be good as new. But I just got a new pair (county was buying) and I'll just have them resoled on my own dime for personal boots.

I won't buy any other boot other than Danner. You get what you pay for.

I have bought three pair of Quarry 2's, locally, in he past three years (we get boot vouchers every year at my place of work), and they are all some of the best boots I have ever owned.  Say what you want about PRC made Danners, but they are still better boots than 99% of other boots, US made, or not.

Danner TFX GTX Deserts are the most comfortable pair of Boots I have ever owner.  I went hiking 5 miles in the snow today and walked over a Ridge.  My toes never got cold in spite of being almost constantly covered in snow.

Unfortunately not re-solable and made in China.

Yep. Bates. I thought the same thing. My Danners were also down to "racing slicks" (actually I still have them...should get them repaired). But, since going to Bates, they seem to be holding up better than what my Danners did. I have had Bates for about 3 or four years now, and have been very happy with them. YMMV.

Agh.. I guess if they work well for you.  They don't hold up for me, but I'm a fat ass.  So I gotta have a good boot with good support.  Bates break down way to quick for me, and don't provide enough support to cart my 300lb ass along

I've got to where I prefer Bellevilles.  If you are .mil or leo you can get them cheap from the factory.  I have bought two pairs off evilbay for $50-$60 each new.

You can also get them here too.
