When I was a little kid I heard that pennies were unlucky unless you found them heads up and for some reason that has ingrained itself into my mind over the last several decades.

It's not worth bringing down the Lincoln equivalent of a mummy's curse just to pick up a penny is all I'm saying.

I used to think that, when I had more money than time. Now that I have more time than money, I pick up any free money.

I always pick them up. I usually find quite a few different coins when the wife and I go out to the store or mall.

We keep the change in an old one gallon vodka bottle, there's probably about $20-25 dollars worth in there - just from 2009.

And if I have a couple in my pocket I'll drop that at the park or some other kid related area.  I'ts a real cheap way to see a little kids eyes light up.

Pick 'em up (if heads down) and immediately hand 'em to a friend. This breaks the curse & gives the friend the good luck.

When I was a kid I always was told to pick them up if the head was facing up....if it was tails, leave it alone.
Superstitious nonsense...but well...it stuck

If I see a wheat penny though (which is obviously tails up or I wouldnt have spotted it from a distance) I pick it up....I collect them.
