I was watching the military channel and they had a show profiling Medal of Honor winners.

One Vietnam MOH winner awardee said he had 8 or 10 clips of ammo and used them in his rifle.

I think he's earned the right to call them  clips.

Just because he is a MOH recipient doesn't mean he's a gun guy. It's just semantics anyway.

They are often called "stripper clips", used to load the magazines.

Winning the MOH doesn't make a magazine a clip.
But I wouldn't correct the man on that point either, Id just shake his hand.

I thought this was ar15.com, not 4chan's /k/ board.

The use of the term "clip" as a troll tactic is an old and tired one.

Let's not criticize MOH recipients over grammar errors, mkay?

My post was not meant to criticize the man, nor troll the site.

It was meant to recognize his service and point out the insignificance of the clip/magazine debate in the big scheme of things.

Good night and God Bless our troops.

There are lots of troops that are NOT experts in firearms. In fact, MOST aren't

However, when I was in basic. Even back then, they hammered into us that Magazines and clips are NOT the same.

I didn't infer criticism nor trollage from your post. In fact I was agreeing that he's earned the right to make a technical mistake without getting hammered for it.

I sure as hell wouldn't squawk in his face about the error. I'd be too busy shaking his hand and professing my humble thanks.

Regardless of other posts'  opinions of the place, 10 years ago Fort Jackson didn't bother crrecting. They did issue us "magazines" but nobody was corrected for calling them "clips", unless you count smartass privates that want to sound important. Sort of like anyone else who is a stickler on the term, isn't it?

No one "wins" a Medal of Honor, they EARN it.

That's my pet peeve about language usage.

clip or magazine whoop-de-do..............................

Saying someone "won" a MoH, like it was awarded in a lottery.....

I've tried and tried but clips just won't stay in the mag well. Fall out everytime.

And carrying 80-100 rounds of ammo into battle isn't very much anyway.

4 years ago I don't remember them drilling it into anyone to call them magazines instead of clips. Then again I don't remember having anyone dumb enough to do that.

Also I am sure as hell not gonna correct a MoH recipient on pretty much anything they say.

Thanks for saving me the effort. It isn't a game. They're AWARDED the medals. One who possesses the Medal of Honor is a Medal of Honor RECIPIENT. Save me the "winner" BS.

It's ironic that this thread started about incorrect terminology while using it repeatedly.

Back in the day.......................... a Vietnam vet was talking about what they carried on their jungle hikes.

They were "allowed" 7 magazines, he said he tried to have more like 15. But, he had lots of boxed 5.56 ammo, on stripper clips, that he was required to carry. Lots more than he had in his 7-15 magazines. He also was required to carry 7.62 MG ammo, grenades, smoke grenades, mortar rounds, in addition to his personal gear.

It sounded like it was amazing they were able to move under the weight of all the gear.

so if Obama calls the White House the "crib", does that mean it's no longer the White House because he's the President??

MOH winner or not, clips are not the same thing as a magazine dammit, get that MOH on here and we'll straighten him out...

Technically there are BOTH for the M-16!!

You can get bandoleers of both pre loaded mags or rounds on CLIPS!

The Clip get inserted into a guide to load your magazines faster, 10 rounds at a time.

He very well could've been issued a bandoleer full of Clips and had to load them into his magazines(Which by the way only takes a few seconds, i store some of excess SHTF ammo on clips ready to be shoved into guides to reload mags quickly.)

I still like the M-14/M1A system better though, you can load from clips via guide or just use the reciever guide on the gun to do it after locking the bolt back manually.

Maybe he was using a Garand ...They were used up until the change over to the M-14 in 1965..
