| Lastnight my iPhone took a shower in the drive thru carwash. I left it laying on the toolbox of my P/U while I buckeled my kid in his carseat. I then took my truck thru the drive thru carwash down the street. Needless to say....its not working. When I first picked it up after its shower, it did come on, but very dim and now nothing works. I dried it out as best I could and its now resting in ziplock bag filled with silica pellets. Called AT&T.......a new basic 8G 3G iPhone if bought out right is $499. Is there any tricks you guys no of the help save my phone? |

Quoted: take it to apple store, whether it was smashed, submerged, EMP'd, etc... they'll give you a brand new 3G or 3GS as long as you are within the warranty period of the phone for $199 Not what happened to me. They took a look at the water sensor and said sorry water damage isn't covered by the warranty, you need to buy a new one at full unsubsidized price. |

Is there any tricks you guys no of the help save my phone? i love how every wet phone thread begins with; "I got it wet - wiped it with towel - tried to turn on - it is broke - now I will try to dry it properly" What is so hard to understand about drying electronics before you attempt to turn them on. Sorry to bust your balls but i just dont get this repeating mentality. I don't play stupid flashy phone games so I have no advise for you getting it fixed. |

Your first mistake was turning it back on when it was wet. You should have let it dry a couple days and then tried. I walked into the pool at the Bellagio with my Samsung Blackjack in my trunks pocket. I dried it out under the hot Nevada sun and it was working fine about 4 hours later. ![]() |

Quoted: Try to get it as dry as you can(interior) and take it to the apple store.. they have replaced mine twice from me dropping it.. Just don't walk in and tell them it took a shower There is a sticker in there that changes color when it gets wet. They'll probably check that first thing. |

Then without really thinking she turned it on to see if was in there...guess she thought it would rattle like if a fork is in there..... |

They will replace a water damaged phone for $199 Or if your lucky it will be free All they have to do is lose you Iphone for a month ![]() Good luck FREE Quoted: Check eBay, find a used phone... or get a refurbished 8GB 3G iPhone for $199 from AT&T. I'm not sure that Apple will replace it, or give you one for $199 if your phone got wet, but it won't hurt to stop by a store and ask. |
|
Apple now has a $199 replacement policy for water damaged phones.

Unless they've changed their policy since 5/5/2009 it looks like they will replace the iPhone for $199. Out of warranty and water damaged. |

Not that I endorse it...but...
There's a little bit of paper / material at the bottom of the earphone jack / hole. Dry = white. If it's ever been wet = pink. A friend of mine has bought water damaged phones (pink at the bottom), and carefully drops white-out down there using a small pin. Applestore employee looks down the hole, sees white = phone has not been wet, so they exchange. He's purchased a few bad iPhones this way (under $50 each), and ended up swapping them out for new units. Personally, my 3GS crapped out a few weeks ago, with dying pixels. I called AppleCare to return. One of the first questions..."look down the earphone hole...what color do you see?" |
