I just purchased a Henry lever action 22 Magnum rifle with an octagonal barrel. I wanted to order scope rings for it but I don't know what kind to get. I'm confused about the whole dovetail, weaver mount thing. Can someone please point me in the right direction? Which one do I need? |

Quoted: Quoted: Quoted: That scope is completely unsuited for the caliber of that rifle. ![]() Why's that? The maximum range of that caliber is less than the minimum useful range of the scope. It's for my dad who has not great eyes (diabetes). What do you recommend 4-12, 3-9? 1in or 30mm tube?

3/8" dovetail are NOT Weaver or Pictanny Rail. They are the standard .22 rimfire mount. The scope should match the intended target. A 4-16 50 mm objective mil dot illuminated scope on that rifle is like Hoss Cartwright on a Shetland Pony. Get a Weaver 2-7 power 32mm objective in standard 1" tube diameter and use good Millet Steel 3/8" mounts. Measure the bell of the objective, then subtract 1" and divide by 2. That is the minimum height although you might have to remove the rear sight. Cheap optics are poor optics. Clarity over power. Unless you are shooting squirrels in the head at 150 yards, 7 power is plenty. |
