Lost my G2.

Looking for something at a reasonable price (under $50, $20 would be great) that is pretty bright.

I know a lot of people like flashlights from Deal Extreme for a cheap flashlight, any tips there?

Get another G2?

What do you think?

ETA: CR123A is a plus.

I'd get a Surefire 6P swap the head out for a 230lumen LED or the likes.

Were you happy with the one you had?  (Until you lost it, of course. )

I like the Ra lights which are way more than you want to spend, all I would tell you is to go LED this time around.  There are many LED lights that are great in the 50 dollar range.

good luck!

If you were happy with the G2, get the LED version.

Deal Extreme stuff is usually very poorly manufactured.

What are your needs?  Do you need floody beam, general purpose, throw?

Is it mainly for emergency or light use?  Or do you use it all the time?

For $50 I'd look at this for a general purpose

Fenix TK20

Overbuilt and reliable.  Waterproof.  Type III anodized
Has two brightness settings.  150 and 45 lumens, so brighter than your G2 with better battery life
Takes AA batteries.  Disposable or rechargeable.
Throws it's beam quite a distance.
LED is "neutral white" which means it will closer resemble the tint of an incandesscant light than most other LED's.
Regulated current.  This means that the output is regulated to be the same for several hours, instead of a light that starts bright and gradually gets dimmer and dimmer.
Comes with holster, pocket clip, spare o-rings, etc.
Thats a pretty nice deal.  PM me for a coupon code that you can use to save a few bucks and bring it under $50.
Oh yeah, shipping is free.

For $20, I'd take a trip over to Target and see what Inova light you can pick up.  They are made in the USA and have been recently updated to be brighter and longer running.  I like the X5, which is a nice floody light, but not going to be too too bright.

To answer questions:

Don't need a "fleshlight," haha.

I was happy with the G2, except I'd like a clicky switch (yeah, this isn't super tactical, but I don't care).

I used my G2 for pretty much everything. It was next to my bed at night, but mainly I used it for stuff like getting firewood in the dark, checking breakers, etc.

Edit: Almost forgot. I'd like a CR123A flashlight because I bought rechargeables already for my G2.

Dealextreme is based out of Hong Kong/China....can take weeks or more to get here.

Without getting into major flashlight wars....I've ordered a couple of items from shiningbeam.com with excellent service.   He carries some of the nicer flashlights that you might find on DX, is based out of NY, and for almost the same money.

I have a fenix TK 12 that I like, it's basically a TK 10 with a really low setting if you need to preserve the batteries.

I also like my tk12. It has awesome regulation for the lithium rechargeables. That is one thing Fenix does very well on. You can also buy an 18650 compatible body tube.

But be warned, the large head and spiny bezel, grip ring, and tail cap make pocket carry difficult. Same with all the TK series.

I'm not crazy about the grip ring, but otherwise I like the flashlight, maybe one of the single cell lights would be better for EDC where you don't have to use it a lot.

I have one of these Colemans that works just fine.

It's in the price range you are suggesting.

3AAA and 6 hours of runtime.

The G2 is probably the best in your price range.

I carry a TK10 daily and love it.

If you buy a Fenix, buy it from Fenixstore.com

You can take the grip ring off easily.

I would look into the Nitecore D10 if you want a pocket light. The Fenix PD30 is larger with a great high.

I would go with another Surefire G2 but an LED version.
Their customer support is great. A friend at work has owned a Z2 for years now.It took a nasty fall well over a year ago shattered the lens.He has been using it with a shattered lens all this time. He was unaware of their warranty. I sent them an email last week letting them know about it and they simply asked for an address to send the new bezel to.

Streamlight is also a good choice with excellent customer service. My Stylus Pro had an issue with its clicky cap. I drop this light almost nightly. While the clicky stopped working the light would still function by using the clicky as a twist on and off. I sent an email and promptly received two spare clickys in the mail.

Surefire 6P. Its just a little more than your price range but well worth it.

LED light with 11 hours on one pair of CR123 batteries FTW!!

If you don't need a light with several output levels (which is a VERY nice feature to have BTW), you might consider the Streamlight PolyTac LED - Basically, it's like a Surefire G2 LED, but brighter (120 lumens), cheaper (around $35 with batteries), and has regulated brightness. Built in USA, and has a lifetime warranty.

I love my SF 6P LED.

Best flashlight I ever owned. Thinking about buying a second one.

Have several fenix lights, never a problem. Just got a Quark mini 123 today. Twist type, pretty bright for such a small light.
