there are more soldiers in the army than marines in the usmc.

also, when marines perform such acts they are often overlooked because it is so common. they cant afford to give them to every service member

(seriously, probably the first one)

Ummm , there is a reason for "The few, the proud"

Lots more soldiers then Marines.

"uncommon valor was a common virtue"

Hard to rise above that standard

Apparently, we just do more courageous things than the Marines.

There aren't that many more trigger pullers in the Army than in the Marines though.

might be true (never heard that before) but they also used to give the MOH for capturing the enemy's colors (flag) which is why the youngest recipient is like 15 and one guy has it twice for the same thing.  at one time i had a book from the library which listed every recipient and reason it was awarded. pretty interesting and definitely distracted me from the real reason i had the book (a college paper and only needed a few citations)

And they were in the rivers, in the delta, and off the coast in Vietnam.  They were also very much a part of WWII.

When the medal was first introduced, the Army gave it to every member of a particular operation (behind Confederate lines IIRC).  There are over 1500 from the Civil war alone.

As for the Coast Guard:  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Douglas_Albert_Munro

Sounds pretty damn heroic to me.
