Work is called off today because of snow. ![]() First time the place shut down that I can remember except for 9-11. http://www.fox6now.com/news/witi-091208-snow-emergency,0,1798227.story MADISON - Governor Jim Doyle has declared a State of Emergency for all 72 counties as a major winter storm hits Wisconsin. The Governor's State of Emergency calls to active duty elements of the Wisconsin National Guard as deemed necessary by Brigadier General Don Dunbar to assist authorities where needed. The declaration instructs all state agencies to assist in any response or recovery efforts that may be encountered. So just what does the NG do in a snow storm? |

So just what does the NG do in a snow storm? When we had a huge snow storm many years ago in PA where the gov shut down the state the NG drove around in their humvees and picked up essential workers (nurses and docs), drove cops around, checked on people, took folks to the ER, etc. Since they were really one of the few groups that could move around in the huge amount ot snow. |

Kids today. Why when was a kid.
I understand not wanting people on the roads, hell most can't keep a car on the road in 75 degreee weather with any reliability, so the snow is an added problem. But toughen up people. By the way, I am taking today off work, so I can go out and move snow, maybe even get in a little hunting. |

We got hit by the storm in TN too, but it wasn't snow last night, it was BUCKETS of RAIN and WIND! Schools are closed here too. All of the roads leading in and out of our area are closed due to mud slides and trees/rocks across the roads. This past Saturday we had 2 inches of snow and it is the most snow I have seen since I left PA. It melted quickly though. I don't know why they close stuff down for a little bit of snow. Around here, if there is snow in the forcast and a flake falls out of the sky, EVERYTHING closes down. In PA, when I was a kid, it could be -20 degrees and 3 feet of snow and you would still have to walk to school. |

Quoted: Sounds like 8" of HEAVY snow in my area according to the plow drivers on the scanner. BFD. High winds expected later today. This is why we have a 4x4. SNOW HAPPENS in Wi. The new plant manager must be a real pussy. We've got about 10-12 here I would say...and it's not slowing down yet. |

This is why we have a 4x4. SNOW HAPPENS in Wi. The new plant manager must be a real pussy. Eight inches will STOP most cars. Your 4x4 will probably laugh at 8 inches of snow, if it's not a toy 4x4 like a Rav4 or something, but even if you have a lifted Jeep, you won't make it past miles of drifted in dead cars. The Least Common Denominator applies, and that tiny Kia, with the 3 cylinder engine, and 4 inches of ground clearance, is going to be the Least Common Denominator that halts all eight lanes of the freeways in your area. Take advantage of the day off, time any travels to avoid the idjits who drive ground hugging matchbox cars, and enjoy the free time at home, as much as possible. |
