My laptop has been giving me fits. Running XP, on a home wireless network conected to Quest DSL. I can get to the internet but anytime have have to go to a site I have to log into (like facebook) it gives me a cannot connect message. I run the suggested Network Diagnostics and it tells me
"Windows cannot connect to the internet using HTTP, HTTPS, or FTP. This is probably caused by firewall setting on this computer.

Check the firewall settings for HTTP port (80), HTTPS port (443), and FTP port (21).

You might need to contact your ISP or the manufacturer of your firewall software"

I have tried disabling my windows firewall and Kaspersky firewall to no avail.  I am at my wits end. Any help?

I dunno.

Flush your DNS?  Maybe your host file is hosed.
I'm seeing that on occasion since I went to FireFox and FIOS.  I haven't taken the time to puzzle it out yet.

Try Urban Commandos here on ARF.

Sounds like something is blocking access to HTTPS the protocol usually used for authentication pages...Might be on your router/firewall...

Reset your internet explorer settings as well, run a complete anti spyware scan.

Other computers on my wireless network work fine. Just this one having the problem, any chance of more in-depth how to fixes?

Do a google search on DNS, it'll explain it better.

Then:

Go to start/run and type this in:
ipconfig /flushdns
Cut and past it.  There's a space after ipconfig

It resets the Domain Name Server list in your Host file.
It's the name/number 'phonebook' that your computer uses to find stuff on the net.

It is almost certainly a configuration issue with one of your firewalls. Temporarily turn them off and see if things work. If they do, enable whatever firewall software you have running on that computer untill things stop working.

You may also have your browsers security settings cranked up. Try a different browser, or return your current one to default settings.
