Need some help on a homework assignment.

Here are the instructions I was given

<label id="ctl_14">Instructions:</label>

Open File EX_21.

Set limits as needed.

Draw Front, Top, right side views.

Dimension views using best placement, COLOR Layer RED

I understand everything but the bold part. Do you think the instructor wants me to use red for all the lines? Or is there some 'color layer' setting I missing?

I think they want you to set the color to ByLayer and use a layer with red as default color.

But yeah, clear as mud.

Just draw the thing and reset the properties as needed once your instructor clarifies.

There are layers that are assigned to certain aspects (such as plumbing and/or wiring in a house) and each layer will have an assigned linetype. Individual layers can be "frozen" ( turned off) so they are not seen at any particular time, much like musltiple aspects can be viewed by an overhead projector.

Unless you have a template with the layers already created, you will have to create them yourself. AutoCad has a very good help section that will give you the individuaal steps to do this and most everything else.

create a new layer and make the default color red.

I just don't understand what layer he wants red. He has us draw the hidden lines, center lines, etc on different layers. I guess I will just set them all to red.

People still use that Dinosaur?

That instruction really makes no sense. I have quite a bit of experience using AutoCAD and if some one gave me that instruction, I would ask them to clarify.

Are you going to be creating any Dynamic Blocks? Those are fun. I have created a lot of those and pissed my manager off. If he had things his was we would have still been using Autocad 14. D-Blocks save a lot of time. He was pissed that I knew how to do something in CAD he didn't.

I have a friend who is a AutoCAD Programmer and analyst. I will ask him and see what he thinks it means. I bet he would know.

ETA: I sent your post to my friend. I will see if he understands it.

AutoCAD is very useful for some types of work, such as millwork, where having a complete 3d model is just a waste of time and resources.  It also excels for some types of diagrams and schematics.

This is what my friend said: I think he wants the
layer that your dimensions are on to be red.

See if that works for you.
